Overview
We are hiring a Traveling Electrical Maintenance Technician to support multiple FedEx distribution facilities across the region. This role is primarily electrical, with a strong focus on three phase wiring, 480V motor work, frequency drives, and electrical troubleshooting on conveyor and material handling equipment. Mechanical maintenance is still part of the job, but the manager is specifically seeking someone with industrial electrical depth who can travel daily to different customer sites.This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys autonomy, problem solving, and working in fast paced distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical (Primary Focus)
Troubleshoot and repair three phase electrical systems, including 480V motors, motor starters, VFDs, and control circuits
Diagnose electrical issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings (including 3 wire start/stop circuits and lighting circuits)
Work with 110V-480V systems, relays, timers, switches, contactors, and overloads
Identify issues in circuits where proper phase to phase power is required (e.g., 480V lighting or motor circuits)
Perform electrical PMs across multiple FedEx facilities
Mechanical (Secondary)
Perform mechanical repairs on conveyors, rollers, belts, bearings, and related equipment
Light MIG welding (iron/light gauge) as needed
Support general maintenance tasks when required
Travel & Customer Support
Travel daily to different FedEx locations within the region
Provide on call support (1 week on / 2 weeks off rotation)
Represent the company professionally in customer-facing environments
Document work performed and communicate findings to site contacts
Requirements
Strong industrial electrical background - three phase wiring and 480V motor experience required
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, including:
Experience with frequency drives (VFDs) and understanding how they control AC motor speed
Experience troubleshooting conveyor systems or material handling equipment
Ability to diagnose electrical issues up to the PLC input/output level (no PLC programming required)
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform maintenance tasks as needed
MIG welding experience preferred
Valid driver's license and ability to travel daily
Ability to meet a 2 hour on call response window
Strong communication and customer service skills
Schedule & Pay
On call rotation: 1 week on / 2 weeks off
