Job/Internship Description
Overview

This individual will work with acoustic engineers on refactoring and updating software that models acoustic beampatterns for sonar arrays. Refactoring efforts include transferring and validating calculations from the legacy Matlab-based code into the new Python application. The tasking may also include adding new features like more detailed beam analysis and/or expanding the work to additional array types and geometries.


What will you do?

  • Migrate acoustic beampattern calculations from Matlab to Python
  • Add more detailed or targeted calculations to improve application performance and fidelity
  • Assess acoustic array performance
  • Test software using modern CI/CD pipelines
  • Study and recommend methods of improving application performance or adding features
  • Assess various array types and geometries
  • Conceive, develop, and evaluate novel engineering solutions to address the unique requirements of the maritime environment

Do you have what it takes?

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Physics in progress
  • Proficient with Python
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness
  • Successful completion of background check

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with software testing
  • Knowledgeable with modern PaaS environment tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, KVM, and Helm
  • Experience with shell scripting languages
