About the Role

As AESC ramps up new battery manufacturing facilities across the Southeastern United States to meet rising demand from automotive OEM partners, we are expanding our local engineering teams to support smooth plant launches.

As the Lead Facilities Control Systems Engineer for Global Industrial Development, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Industrial Facility systems. These systems will include Compressed air, Cooling water, Chillers, HVAC, Lighting, Security, Fire Suppression, and Manufacturing equipment.

We are looking for an automation leader who can direct Engineering Contractors and integrators to develop a fully integrated and automated Facility.

Your Team

You will be reporting directly to the Controls Engineering Manager of our Global Industrial Development function. You will collaborate closely with a group of dedicated professionals, each contributing their unique skills and expertise to our collective success You will join a growing team of talented individuals in roles such as construction management, construction design experts, product design and process design teams, logistic and plant operation teams, fostering a collaborative and dynamic work environment. What You Will Do
  • Direct Contractors: Work with General Contractor and Engineering Design Contractors to evaluate and approve the Facility Control System design.
  • Vendor and Supplier Management: Lead interactions with external suppliers and vendors for Facility Equipment, ensuring the procurement of cutting-edge components.
  • Instrumentation: Assist Process engineers with correct selection and placement of Instrumentation including air Particle sensors, Flow, Pressure, and temperature sensors.
  • SCADA/HMI: Work with the team to develop standard HMI and SCADA designs using Ignition by Inductive Automation.
  • Standards: Develop Standard specs and Basis of Design for a fully integrated and Automated Battery Manufacturing Facility
  • Controllers: Familiar with different controllers and control systems including PLCs and DDCs.
  • Monitoring/Reporting: Establish and maintain advanced monitoring protocols, including real-time analytics and machine learning to track facility performance, energy Consumption, and predictive maintenance needs.
  • Interface with Stakeholders: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand requirements, address concerns, and ensure seamless collaboration, fostering strong relationships that contribute to the success of our initiatives.
  • Commissioning: Supervise integrators to ensure seamless and on time commissioning of supervisory control systems. Assist with developing commissioning test plans and documentation. Troubleshoot installation discrepancies.
  • Operation: Assist local personnel on day-to-day operation of Facility to ensure optimal performance.
  • Training: Train Local facility operations and maintenance.
  • Optimization: Conduct regular assessments using data analytics to identify opportunities for system optimization and improvement.
  • Demonstrate Leadership Skills: Exhibit strong leadership qualities by providing guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work culture, and solving challenges with a forward-thinking mindset.
  • Stay Informed on Industry Trends: Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and market dynamics, applying this knowledge to day-to-day activities and contributing to our competitive edge in the market.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay at the forefront of emerging standards and regulations pertaining to Facility Controls, ensuring code compliance. Implement advanced features to enhance safety and environmental regulations in Industrial Building operations.
What You Need
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls Engineering or a related field
  • 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and optimization of Facility Control Systems in an Industrial Manufacturing Environment
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Facility Industrial Hardware and Software with expertise in advanced control strategies and system integration
  • Familiar with protocols such as Profinet, ModbusTCP, Ethernet/IP, BACnet, OPC
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in PLC controlled Facilities: Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart (SFC), IEC 6113-3 Standard, JSON
  • Experience with integrated Facility safety systems like Fire alarm, Gas detections, Access Control, etc.
  • Instrumentation: Experience with selecting instruments to support facility monitoring such as Flow, Pressure, Air Particle sensors, Temperature, and Pressure. And Experience with Output devices for control including On/Off Valves, Control Valves, Pumps, VFDS, HVAC VAVs, etc.
  • Clean/Dry Room: Experience with controlling Facility equipment (like HVAC, DHUs, AHUs) to maintain a clean and dry room for sensitive industrial processes.
  • Strong understanding of Network layout and infrastructure, Fiber, Ethernet Switches,
  • Experience with Siemens PLC S7, TIA Portal, DDCs, Distech, Siemens Disego
  • Experience with Ignition by Inductive Automation a Plus
  • Start-up Experience: Experience or familiarity with the dynamics of start-up environments, showcasing an ability to thrive in agile and fast-paced settings.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring engineers
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (Training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
