Position description

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The GSR reports directly to the Director of the Office of State College Preparation Programs (OSCPP). This position will assist Director Lepe with implementing and evaluating research-based activities during the 1300 Campaign Summer Youth Leadership Academy. It is especially well-suited for graduate students interested in assisting with developing the motivation and self-efficacy of adolescent young men of color from the Northern San Joaquin Valley in California. In addition, the GSR will be asked to help the Director with data collection, including feedback surveys, research on best practices, and preparing materials as needed. Finally, the GSR may be asked to assist with implementing important initiatives related to Summer Youth Leadership Academies.
Job Summary:
Under the Director, the GSR will provide research and other support for academic research through planning, presentations, activities, or training;
assist with the organization, implementation, and evaluation of various program activities aimed at fostering leadership skills among high school students;
collaborate with faculty, staff, and fellow graduate students to design engaging workshops, seminars, and team-building exercises;
research to assess the effectiveness of program components, providing mentorship to participants, and contributing to the overall success of the academy;
coordinate logistical aspects of the residential experience to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in youth development, program management, and research within a dynamic educational setting.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications

Currently enrolled in a graduate program at UC Merced
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with high school students, faculty, and staff.
Experience working with youth in educational or leadership development settings through volunteer work, internships, or previous employment.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to the planning and executing program activities.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
Proficiency in conducting research, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, residential summer program environment.
Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all program planning and implementation aspects.

Preferred qualifications

One or more of the following:
Prior experience working with residential programs or summer camps, particularly in a college or university setting.
Knowledge of leadership theory, adolescent development, or related fields through coursework or practical experience.
Familiarity with program evaluation methodologies, including survey design, data collection techniques, and statistical analysis.
Experience facilitating group discussions, workshops, or experiential learning activities focused on leadership development.
Experience in mentoring or advising undergraduate students, either academically or in extracurricular activities.
