Purpose

Join a passionate and energetic 13-person Development Team as a Senior Grants and Planning Associate. The position reports to the Director of Strategic Development & Foundation Relations and is responsible for grants development and related planning initiatives. The position will deepen relationships with many of JCFS Chicago's long-standing foundation partners, as well as work to identify and cultivate new prospects.

The Development Team's office is in West Rogers Park, Chicago and all team members are welcome to work remotely up to four days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Deepen relationships with current foundation funders and partners to generate increased revenue
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with foundation prospects in support of new and ongoing agency programs
  • Write grant proposals, develop budgets, and submit reports; work with program, accounting, evaluation and other staff as needed
  • Participate in select planning efforts, collaborating with JCFS staff and community partners to develop programs in response to community need
  • Provide occasional support to other Development Department activities as assigned, such as attending fundraising events and donor programs

    Decision Making Authority

    Makes independent work decisions after Manager provides overview of end result. Has discretion in determining how the work gets done. Develops solutions to complex problems and discusses with supervisor.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
    • A minimum of 4-6 years' experience in grant writing with a proven track record; experience securing grants for human service programs preferred
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, research, budget, and organization skills
    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, produce quality work under tight time constraints, think creatively, attend to detail, and work independently as well as collaboratively
    • Ability to represent the department and the agency in a positive and professional manner
    • This position will occasionally travel between multiple agency sites and will be responsible for their own means of transportation whether public transportation or personal automobile
    • Proficient in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of Raiser's Edge preferred
