POSITION TITLE: Corps Assistant and Youth Ministries Director

DEPARTMENT: Corps Programs

REPORTS TO: Corps Officer

STATUS: Regular Full Time, Exempt

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Corps Assistant and Youth Ministries role is a leadership position that provides both program and administrative management functions to support the corps officer in their work and assigned corps programs. This position will lead and assist in various Salvation Army regular and seasonal programs such as, but not limited to: Youth Ministries, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Summer, Camp, etc. The Corps Assistant will develop and implement a growing spiritual ministry within the framework of The Salvation Army's programs, policies and practices that also seeks to be innovative and uses social media to advance and engage participants. The Corps Assistant will provide oversight and support for various programs such as transitional living, and other housing programs during emergencies or in the corps officer's absence, they would be, within the boundaries of policy, be responsible to oversee all personnel, program, and business matters during this timeframe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, prepare, and implement various current/future ministries offered by the Helena Corps in coordination with corps officer and other ministry staff/volunteers.
  • Understand, practice, and teach the programs of The Salvation Army.
  • Lead and manage the Youth Ministries program, provide direct supervision and support as needed and prepare and lead Youth Sunday School. Assist with assigned budgets, as required.
  • Prepare and make provision for junior church.
  • Prepare and lead seasonal summer
  • Prepare and lead seasonal holiday
  • Survey and plan for neighborhood Survey, plan and lead in coordination with corps officer and other staff, neighborhood outreach and related programs, communications, and events.
  • Serve as primary driver for Youth and other Corps ministries when appropriate and assigned, including the need to operate and drive Class B vehicles.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain Corps social media platforms, including Facebook.
  • Provide program and administrative support to Corps Officer, as
  • On-site supervisor for emergency, or after hours program oversight, Transitional Living and Sober Living Homes, including administration of Narcan in response to crisis, as needed.
  • On-call contact for emergencies and to oversee residents, as requested.
  • Ensure program spaces are kept tidy and organized.
  • Create and maintain relationships with program participants and families.
  • Maintain Salvation Army resources including, but not limited to vehicles, finances, website, social media, and finances per Salvation Army policies.
  • Attend Corps and NW Divisional events as directed.
  • Meet regularly with Corps officer for review and update of ministry needs and goals.
  • Create and maintain program files as needed, including on Corps and Divisional electronic filing systems.
  • Maintain and update contact information.
  • Generate reports as needed.
  • Prepare agendas, record, and distribute minutes as needed.
  • Maintain supply inventory and order replacement supplies, as necessary.
  • Prepare general correspondence as requested, including form letters.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested and directed by Corps Officer.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum post High School diploma education to include Associate Degree, or equivalent vocational or certifications; a college degree in general studies, youth development, social services, theology, or administration, preferred.
  • Previous experience in youth ministry preferred, preferably with Salvation Army experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age, with a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and a Motor Vehicle Record check, including ability to operate and drive a Class B vehicle.
  • Must be an effective communicator, giving and receiving instructions, collaborating with staff, volunteers, clients appropriate to the current situation.
  • Ability to work with adults and youth of all ages.
  • Must be able to function without exhibiting behavioral extremes.
  • Ability to delegate and follow up accordingly.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others.
  • Organized

  • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication (Spelling - 90% Grammar - 85%)
  • Energetic, personable, and dependable
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities.
  • Proficient typing skills (60 words per minute)
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential.
  • Ability to play instrument/lead worship, preferred.
  • Ability to complete the Protect the Mission certification.
  • Must be able to become certified for Narcan administration.
  • Working knowledge of Salvation Army policies, procedures, and programs

TECHNOLOGY-RELATED SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Office Suite Word and Excel required; proficiency with Outlook; PowerPoint,
  • Proficient with various social media platforms.
  • Audio visual experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is typically performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated without noise, dust, dirt and similar. The service providing areas may generate exposure from time to time with bloodborne pathogens or other potential infectious materials.
  • Work Schedule / Location: Monday through Friday; in-person.
  • Some local travel is required.
