The TS&D Specialist (Adhesives/Sealants) is aimed at supporting customers in Latex Binders BU particularly focused on CASE and further more on the Adhesives & Sealants market. TS&D Specialist role plays a key role to support business maintenance & growth by providing technical service to our customers and developing new biz opportunities & products to new & existing customers to serve their needs.

This will initially be a Hybrid position in Midland, MI that will include 25% travel to external customers.

Responsibilities

Product/Application Development

    Work with central R&D, the application laboratory, consultants, and/or external laboratories to rapidly develop new product solutions that meet the needs of the local market application.
  • Translate customer requirements and application needs into direct product solutions in target Adhesives & Sealants markets and the related applications.
  • Implement new products at customers in close cooperation with other functions (sales, product research, process research, and manufacturing).
  • Identify gaps in our application know how and identify/develop tools (capital, materials, test procedures, etc.) and technology required to close those gaps.
  • Work closely with technician team to optimize resource use against opportunity size and timing.
  • Leads technical projects from Platform projects to product tweaks to formulation design and application programs
  • Plans technical perspective for projects, prepares charters, defines critical issue to ensure efficient execution and on target implementation (time, value, capex)
  • SME in all test methods and instruments used in the CASE Value Center, primary focus being in Construction applications
  • Defines requirements and leads implementation of new testing capabilities in alignment with the CASE Roadmap execution
  • Brings methods from installation to operation
  • Explores market for external laboratory services that further enhances CASE's application development capabilities. Key liaison to those external labs, coordinates respective testing programs
  • Runs the more sophisticated application lab methods and programs as required and trains lab technicians on new methods developed so they can become part of the standard methods run by the technician team
  • Prepares both, condensed/day-to-day as well as scientific reports (e.g. CRIs) in a professional manner
  • Reports observations and thoughts proactively to contribute to product/application development success
  • Guide/co-lead Product Development efforts
  • Work with polymer researchers to develop new latex products
  • Leads and coordinates scale up team to ensure smooth integration of new products into the manufacturing assets
  • Identify customer needs and market trends in Adhesives & Sealants applications
  • Runs tests in safe manner aligned with SOP
  • Follows strictly all standards and operational procedures
  • Generates reproducible test data and reports properly into the database

Other Responsibilities:

  • Develop and build relationships with external customers, suppliers, influencers, and decision makers through daily contacts and industry association activity. Develop market recognized technical skills.
  • Attends technical conferences and exhibitions and represents Trinseo CASE as industry expert
  • Significant contributor to building CASE brand awareness and reputation in the CASE market industries
  • Drive EBIT by developing and qualifying products for new customers or new applications
  • Develop recognized expertise in application and product areas
  • Completes programs and projects in a timeline manner

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Polymer Material Science, Fabrication Technology or Engineering, or closely related fields.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in a Technical Service and/or Development role with exposure to adhesives, labels, sealants industry
  • Knowledge of polymers and/or polymer fabrication technologies
  • Good interpersonal skills are critical
  • Very structured and pro-active way of working
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Independent worker, self-starter, hands-on and proactive personality
  • Mobile and able to travel approximately up to 25% of the time, essentially within the US
