We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead VPK Teacher to join our team. As a lead VPK teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping young minds and fostering a positive learning environment. You will work closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that each child receives individualized attention and care.

Our ideal candidate has a degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Special Education or a related field and at least2 years of related work experiencein the childcare industry, specifically working with infants and toddlers and supervising others. You should be knowledgeable about child development, early childhood education and have a passion for creating a positive learning environment.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position implements and supervises a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the Day Care Center for the College. Duties include leading teaching efforts in developing-appropriate curriculum for the early childhood classroom; supporting classroom assistants and student teachers; developing a professional working relationship with parents; and ensuring various compliance requirements.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees Day Care program to provide care and protection for assigned children.

  • Maintains a physical environment conducive to children's growth and development as well as arranging to promote optimal program functioning; strives to maintain a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere for children and parents.

  • Plans, schedules, and implements daily programs of appropriate developmental experiences for a classroom; plans and prepares all lesson plans and reinforcement activities for assistants; and guides them to follow through.

  • Assists in developing appropriate habits in such activities as eating, dressing, napping, and personal hygiene including assisting parents with toilet training; remains perceptive and aware of all children at all times.

  • Considers and/or provides for the needs of the individual child and family in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background, emotional or physical challenges, individual style, and pace of learning; respects the dignity and basic rights of each child; and helps children learn to adapt to and cope with real-life situations.

  • Makes daily observations of the health of children as well as reporting conditions which require attention.

  • Ensures that equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, in good condition, and are prepared before the school day begins; performs routine classroom related and other maintenance duties as required for efficient classroom operation.

  • Complies with all DCF and Early Learning Coalition regulations relating to the classroom.

  • Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops, and other career development and professional activities; completes continuing education hours per state requirements each year.

  • Composes a monthly classroom article for the Center's newsletter; assists with public relations.

  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience in child development or early childhood education including curriculum development; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

  • Holds appropriate credentials.

  • Knowledge of Child Development and Early Childhood Education.

  • Knowledge of safety issues with children between the ages of birth (0) through four (4).

  • Skill in organizing, supervising, time management, and prioritizing.

  • Skill in providing customer service.

  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.

  • Ability to be accurate and detailed oriented, establish rapport with parents, multi-task, be patient and flexible, be self-motivated; work independently as well as with others; work with young children, and remain calm in challenging situations.,

  • Ability to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in a classroom setting as well as model and supervise appropriate teaching techniques within the classroom.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.

To perform this job successfully, the employee must possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. Additionally, all employees of the College are expected to maintain professional standards of communication, able to learn and apply new technology, and abide by all policies and procedures. Continued employment remains on an "at-will" basis.
