Job Summary

As an environmental, health, and safety (EHS) specialist, you receive on-the-job training to successfully implement aspects of Louisville Water's EHS programs. Your responsibilities may have limits at first, but as you learn more about laws, procedures, conducting tests, and identifying hazards, you gain more responsibility. Under the supervision of experienced EHS professionals your efforts assist with protecting the environment and promoting the safety of employees, contractors, customers, and public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintaining and distributing adequate first aid and personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies.

Inspecting and maintaining miscellaneous equipment (e.g. PPE. SCBAs, emergency eyewash and safety shower stations, AEDs, fire extinguishers, rigging, Fall protection equipment)

Scheduling and tracking routine tasks in a safety management system.

Analyzing injury and illness data for the purpose of identifying hazards, refining standard operating procedures, and developing corporate goals.

Participating in corporate and area-specific safety teams and meetings.

Implementing and maintaining hazard communication initiatives to include safety data sheets (SDSs) and hazard signage.

Assisting with updating procedures and work instructions.

Compiling and analyzing data pertaining to work-related injuries and illnesses for the purpose of modifying existing work practices and establishing corporate/union goals.

Conducting PPE hazard assessments in different areas of the company.

Assisting with the completion and submittal of regulatory compliance plans and reporting (FMCSA Annual

MIS Drug and Alcohol Reporting, Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, OSHA 300 Logs, OSHA Injury Tracking Applications, Annual Hazardous Waste Assessments, SARA Title III Tier II Reporting, Hazardous Materials Use and Spill Prevention Plan, SPCC/SWPPP Plans).

Coordinating or performing miscellaneous training, testing, emergency drills and inspections to include (new hire training, audiometric and respirator fit testing, severe weather drills and building evacuation exercises).

Utilizing learning management systems to schedule, track, and report completion of assigned tasks, environmental, health, and safety performance metrics and safety-related training.

Performing field audits/assessments of environmental, health, and safety programs (DOT compliance, confined space entry, excavation safety, traffic control, respiratory protection, forklift safety, hot work, chemical safety management, contractor safety, hearing conservation, fall protection, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, overhead cranes, etc.).

Coordinating and maintaining documentation of random drug and alcohol testing, driver qualification files, respirator medical clearance and CDL medical physicals.

Performing other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Generally, works a 40-hour week in office, laboratory, and field environments; frequent travel between company locations is required. Chemical and bacteriological laboratories may contain hazardous materials and equipment. Office work is mostly sedentary using a computer. Field activities may include construction, water treatment plant, and warehouse locations. Field work may require significant walking/standing on varying surfaces/terrains at time in adverse weather conditions. Position is subject to 24-hour emergency call out.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Environmental, Health, and Safety or closely related field; and

Valid driver's license.
