College of Arts and Humanities:

The College of Arts and Humanities fosters creativity, culture, and collaboration across the UCF community. The college comprises two schools, five departments, two interdisciplinary graduate programs, seven interdisciplinary areas of study, and eight centers, institutes, and offices.

The Opportunity:

The UCF HR Business Centers (HRBCs) provide the first point of contact for support for employees across the university's various colleges and divisions. This center is embedded within the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), allowing the HR staff within the center to be integrated into the operations and culture of the community in which they work. Through this model, HR staff act as invaluable advisors and business advocates for the college or division that they serve.

The HR Director I supports the college leaders in collaboration with their staff and central HR offices to ensure optimal and consistent HR experiences for all staff and faculty. The HR Director provides consultation and guidance to senior-level leadership on complex talent strategies, practices, and employment issues. The HR Director is responsible for the oversight and continuous improvement of HR service delivery for their supported college. They collaborate with the Center of Expertise HR offices and the Office of the Provost to deploy human resources policies and practices in CAH while ensuring the business needs of their units are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with college or division leaders to support their talent needs, helping to identify positions, classify roles, set appropriate compensation levels, and approve personnel transactions for faculty and staff within Workday per guidelines.

  • Provide guidance and development to the HR team housed within the College of Arts and Humanities (HRBC).

  • Ensure consistency in HR policies and practices, while also meeting the unique needs of the college or divisions supported.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable collective bargaining agreements, university regulations, university policies, and procedures and apply them to everyday counsel provided to staff and complex situations.

  • Identify themes, needs, and issues facing their supported college or division, develop strategies, policies, communications, training, and programs to support the workforce, and communicate relevant information to their supported unit(s).

  • Provide professional HR advisory services to managers, leaders, and employees in their supported units on workforce planning, talent management, performance management, employee relations, employee engagement, and employee rewards and recognition programs.

Academic Responsibilities When Supporting the College:

  • Ensures the managers/chairs complete various faculty reviews (e.g., annual evaluations, cumulative progress evaluations, sustained performance evaluations, fifth-year chair reviews) and the distribution of student perceptions of instructor reports.

  • Provide strategic support to the chair/director regarding faculty or specialized faculty positions to ensure the college/division is adhering to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the college/division is achieving its strategic goals.

  • Provide workforce data and recommendations regarding faculty for the college. Provide guidance on Administrative Discretionary Increase (ADI).

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6). Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a recognized HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is preferred, demonstrating a solid understanding of HR principles and best practices.

  • A deep working knowledge of HR rules, regulations, processes, and procedures is essential. The ability to explain these concepts to others is a significant advantage.

  • We prefer candidates who excel in providing exceptional customer and personal services, with a focus on assessing customer needs, meeting high-quality service standards, and continuously evaluating customer satisfaction.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking abilities, and analytical problem-solving skills are highly desirable. We prefer candidates who have a proven track record of working closely with leaders to support issue resolution.

  • Our ideal candidates are highly effective strategic thinkers who can make valuable recommendations. They also demonstrate a commitment to ethical conduct in their professional relationships with peers, colleagues, and cross-functional teams.
