Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for: effective management and overall performance of the maintenance activities for the plant (includes manufacturing, shipping, warehouse, site building and grounds). Minimization of downtime in the facility to keep the plant running at optimal performance levels. Utilizing preventative maintenance measures, planning and organization of project work, effective scheduling, and prioritization of activities to best meet business objectives.

What you'll do

  • Provides direction and leadership to all maintenance personnel including support for maintenance on second shift.
  • Ensures the safety of the department as well as machines to ensure the safety of our plant personnel.
  • Owns meeting or exceeding established budgets for maintenance.
  • Supports capital project improvement work.
  • Maintains a PM program.
  • Reports downtime in the facility.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to maintenance employees.
  • Develops the skills and abilities of the maintenance staff.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Supply Chain, Safety, Finance, Product Development and HR Department as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises 4 hourly maintenance employees on second shift and 6 members of the cleaning staff.

  • Understanding of safe work practices such as lock out/tag out, hot work permits, confined space entry and PPE.
  • Communication skills: ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to perform precision tasks, including alignments, using lasers, dial indicators, etc.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches, samples, and written or verbal instructions to disassemble, assemble, install, adjust, or repair machinery and equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the repair and installation of mechanical equipment
  • Strong experience using predictive and preventive tools, diagnostic tools, and calibration tools.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge including the ability to read blueprints and technical instructions or data.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5+ years of Maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Experience disassembling, assembling, installing, or repairing such items as pumps, conveyors, gear reducers, several types of drive units, agitators, vacuum pumps, compressors, hydraulic cylinders, fans, heaters, chains, chain dogs, and hold-downs.
  • Experience working in and understanding computerized maintenance systems such as SAP PM.
  • SAP Maintenance module experience.

  1. Office Environment - This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. No PPE is required.
  2. Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

About the location (Newark OH)

Tectum, Inc., a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI), is one of fifteen Armstrong plants in North America. Our Tectum manufacturing plant employs manypeople across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product.
