Wage: $ 16.50 - $17.00 hour

Position Summary:

The Assistant Cook will support the Food Service Coordinator with preparing food items per USDA guidelines and ECEAP Performance Standards. The primary objective is to provide a clean and safe kitchen area for our staff; wash and clean tableware, pots, pans and cooking equipment, and keep the kitchen and equipment clean and organized.

Responsibilities:

Support the Food Service Coordinator

  • Maintains a Guest focus while performing duties
  • Assumes responsibility for the cleanliness of dishware
  • Load, run, and unload dish machine
  • Keep the dish machine clean and report any functional or mechanical problems to the kitchen manager immediately
  • Monitor dish machine water temperature and chemical levels to ensure sanitary wash cycle
  • Wash and store all tableware and kitchenware
  • Keep dish room clean and organized
  • Bag and haul kitchen trash to dumpster
  • Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss
  • Maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies
  • Clean food preparation and production areas as required
  • Closes the kitchen properly
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen and food storage area, using public health standards as a minimum
  • Ensure dishes are clean and sanitized and delivered to the classrooms in a timely manner along with the meals and snacks

Job Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring medium physical exertion, talking and hearing and adequate vision on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 95% of the time.

Non-physical Requirements:

Education

GED or High School Diploma

Experience

  • Two years of experience as an assistant cook and in kitchen management

Special Skills

  • Knowledge of nutrition and menu planning
  • Knowledge in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  • Food handlers card
  • First Aid/CPR card
  • HIV-Aids card
  • Proof of negative TB test

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required
