Job Description

Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in an orderly, systematic approach to meet the changing needs of patients across the life span.

Accountabilities/Duties:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and behaviors consistent with the Hospital Code of Business Ethics and Corporate Compliance policies and procedures on a daily basis.
  • Coordinates, delivers, and delegates nursing care that is safe, ethical, efficient, and culturally competent based on patient assessment/ standards of care.
  • Delivers Nursing Care according to the standards of care defined within the Nursing Standards of practice and Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).
  • Completes all ER Nursing general care, specific skills, IV Placement, validations and core competencies as outlined by the Nurse Manager/ CRN/ Trauma Coordinator/ Stroke Coordinator/ Educator. Responsible for participating in department meetings, skills fair and mandatory education. Must maintain required certifications.
  • Adheres to Hudson Hospital & Clinic as well as unit specific Policies and Procedures. Develops and initiates plan of patient care using an outcomes-based approach ensuring quality care and application of age-related growth and development principles in coordination with the medical plan of care.
  • Illustrates understanding of triage process; ability to make quick and accurate assessments of incoming patients, including both physical and mental health problems through application of Emergency Severity Index (ESI) acuity.
  • Knowledge of medications and IV Fluids in addition to correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Demonstrates appropriate nursing interventions such as identifying and clarifying patient needs, performing procedures, conducting health education, promoting patient advocacy, promoting patient experience, coordinating nursing and other health services, assisting the patient to navigate within the health care system as needed, and evaluate the patient outcomes.
  • Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.
  • Consults other departments and other health care team members, patient and family members as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs and continuity of patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Ability to effectively document comprehensive patient care, assess learning needs and individualize health care teaching to patients and families in a timely manner. Documents learning needs and education in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Knowledgeable and incorporates regulatory requirements and National Patient Safety Goals into practice.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and assumes the role of patient advocate.


Required Qualifications:

  • Current WI RN License.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS, PALS/ENPC required within 3 months of hire.
  • TNCC required within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year recent ER experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN degree
