The Construction EIT/Coordinator will function as an assistant to the project manager on waste facility projects including transfer stations, material recovery facilities, household hazardous waste facilities, landfills, and organics facilities, while eventually transitioning into leading your own projects. This person will also be responsible for assisting team leadership in sustaining and growing client relationships and organizing and contributing to overall business development opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Construction EIT/Coordinator, we'll count on you to:

  • Assist the Project Manager with all facets of project execution
  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff.
  • Coordinate and track action items and budgets through all phases of a facility project including strategic planning, permitting, design, construction, and closeout.
  • Receive, issue and track RFIs, submittals and other required data.
  • While not otherwise involved in project-specific work, support other project and proposal efforts, including estimating, procurement and project controls, and coordinating, expediting, and tracking construction submittals.
  • Read, clearly understand and interpret construction drawings.
  • Work with project accountants to issue invoices and monthly reports.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and develop subagreements and manage subcontractor budgets.
  • Establish client relations and be involved in business development, marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures.
  • Assist in leading a team of staff engineers in preparation of design deliverables including engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules with support from HDR's national practice leads.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and negotiate remedial actions.
  • Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills, ability to interact with the design team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in construction management and/or construction quality assurance related activities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and support periodic construction quality assurance and/or construction administration activities at construction sites for durations of 3-6 months.
  • Proven leadership and Project Management skills required.
  • Professional engineer (PE) license is preferred, but not required.
  • Project Management Professional certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with local permitting (stormwater, location & extent, land development, etc.) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients higher preferred.
  • Must be detail-oriented and a team player with great communication, technical writing, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project development and execution in the Public and/or Private sectors.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, Scheduling Software, spreadsheets and databases
  • Interest and/or experience in the construction field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
