Job Description

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, is seeking outstanding candidates for five faculty positions to start immediately in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at UT Southwestern and Children's Health System of Texas, Dallas.

The Department of Pediatrics at UTSW has 500+ faculty and staff, 18 divisions and center, 200+ doctors-in-training, 15 ACGME-certified pediatric subspecialties, 7 clinical sites, 477 active clinical studies, 350+ publications and $70.4 million in grant funding. https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/departments/pediatrics/

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine was formally established in early 2019 and consists of 28 faculty. All faculty are PHM board-eligible, and 10 faculty are board certified. Faculty practice on the main campus at Children's Medical Center Dallas, a nationally ranked pediatric acute care teaching hospital located in Dallas, Texas. The hospital system has 496 beds (387 in Dallas) and is affiliated with UTSW Medical School. The Division of PHM provides comprehensive care to hospitalized children in the North Texas region. Our clinical enterprise consists of caring for approximately 21% of hospitalized children with three teaching and three solo hospitalist services with 24/7 in-house coverage. In fall, we expand to four teaching and five solo-service. Clinical practice involves teaching medical students, categorical pediatrics and medicine-pediatrics residents, and family-medicine residents from UTSW and affiliated institutions. Faculty have access to all medical and surgical specialties and numerous ancillary services. A robust palliative care program was started in 2020 and the university was recently approved from starting a Medical Informatics program. In 2021, ACGME accreditation was obtained to start PHM fellowship with two fellows per year.

PHM faculty serve in many leadership roles in the residency program, clerkship program, utilization management program, clinical operations, and as president and medical representatives on the Medical Executive Committee and other university and hospital committees. Faculty are part of VIP network and PRIS network multi-site projects and are actively involved in health services research through Children's Hospital Association. Other faculty interests include: neurosciences program, simulation-based education, point of care ultrasound program, musculoskeletal infection program, QI and Safety program and night education curriculum.

The Division of PHM has a robust clinical practice with the vision to be a premier academic practice in the country with national reputation for state-of-the-art clinical and academic programs. We are looking for a dynamic candidate who wants to be part of a growing practice where they can obtain resources to reach to their full potential.

Responsibilities for the faculty will include providing clinical services at the Children's Health Facility in Dallas (quaternary care). PHM faculty provide both direct patient care and care with residents and students. Direct care is provided 24/7. Care with trainees is provided on the teaching service with categorical pediatric residency training program and students from UT Southwestern Medical School. Faculty will have ample opportunities for career advancement in their areas of interest.

Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas and board certified in Pediatrics. Applicants must also be Pediatric Hospital Medicine Board eligible or certified. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
