Eastern and Central NC CEI Team Lead - Project Manager

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate CEI Team Lead - Project Manager to be based in our Raleigh, North Carolina office. This person would have a state-wide reach, but would predominantly focus in Eastern and Central North Carolina (focusing on NCDOT Divisions 1 through 10) to assist in building a nationally recognized construction engineering and inspection (CE&I) program and provide CE&I services to transportation clients, including Highway/Bridge, Rail, Aviation, Port and Pedestrian modes. As a CEI Team Lead - Project Manager, will be a team-oriented leader with expertise in construction management as the project lead on major construction projects, have a desire to participate in regionally and nationally significant projects, provide exemplary client relations, and demonstrate extraordinary responsiveness to transportation clients within a personally and professionally fulfilling work environment. You will be skilled in project development, seeking project opportunities, recruiting project personnel, and managing transportation projects.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Managing and delivering construction management and inspection contracts in their assigned areas
  • Maintaining/building client relationships with NCDOT and other Municipal and County clients
  • Construction Management /Inspection staff recruitment/retention/training
  • Project QA/QC on projects in their assigned business areas
  • Coordinating with the S&ME Regional Director, Statewide CEI Practice Leader, Office Principals, and other applicable team members as needs arise

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • 15+ years of experience with NCDOT, FHWA or local municipalities in Construction Management/Services on civil/transportation projects
  • 5+ years experience in supervisory or management capacity
  • A Professional Engineer License (North Carolina preferred)
  • CMAA, PMP, and/or DBIA Certifications, a plus
  • The willingness and ability to travel across the state as needs and opportunities arise
  • Experience managing construction services for DOTs, rail and transit agencies, airports and/or toll authorities
  • Experience in developing client relationships, proposals, and work opportunities

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
