Summary

For a limited time MaineHealth is offering a $500.00 sign on bonus for Companion Sitters

  • Eligible candidates are hired (offer accepted) into a Full or Part time Companion Sitter position. Bonus amount prorated for Part time hires, per diem hires are ineligible.
  • Current MaineHealth member employees are ineligible; former MaineHealth Members are ineligible until greater than 6 months separation from employment.

We have an immediate need for Companion Sitters to join our care team who are able to float between our two campuses in Biddeford and Sanford, ME.

This uniquely fulfilling role is a caregiver who provides patients in need of supervision with companionship and care by providing observational support for patients that need eyes on support, as well as, support to patients through hands-off direct, one on one engagement.

Companion Sitters position themselves in their assigned patient's room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient If the patient has any worries or concerns about how they're feeling, or if their symptoms are worsening, Companion sitters listen to these problems and relay them to the appropriate nurse so that further action can be taken if necessary. The role provides care in a manner that soothes patients, observes for changes in their condition, and summons nursing staff where necessary. Additionally, we have a full-time Nurse Educator on-site for additional support and further learning opportunities for all of our staff focused on behavioral health issues and diagnosis. As many of our learning opportunities are online courses, basic computer skills are needed.

Position Summary

The Companion Sitter under the supervision of a registered nurse, and according to the established policies and procedures, the Companion Sitter will provide service duties to patients as needed, requirements varying from assignment to assignment.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High school graduate preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A (CNA, Psychiatric Technician, Medical Assistant desirable).
  3. Experience: Experience in the field of healthcare helpful but not required.
  4. Excellent communication skills required.
  5. Ability to read, write and complete institutional training.
  6. Requires interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain continuous relationships with patients, visitors and other SMHC employees.
