JOB SUMMARY:

Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have a great opportunity for an Industrial Electrician in the Richmond, VA. area! Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, this person will contribute to regional Operations and Maintenance (O&M) initiatives by testing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and installing Controls systems & components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), OIT (Operator Interface Terminal), and other HMI (Human Machine Interface) programs that are used to operate / control water & wastewater facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain communications devices such as switches, radios, routers, and modems.
  • Build strong working relationships with Operations staff to resolve monitoring and control issues.
  • Ensure all modifications are tested to be fully-functional, from the PLC to the end-user's display.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and/or install pumping systems.
  • Follows departmental protocols, processes, and standards to ensure equipment is working properly and that issues are fully-resolved within Service Level Agreements [SLA's].
  • Perform additions and upgrades to motors and controls systems (including startup and testing) in order to provide continuous improvement of operations.
  • Deliver turnkey systems, from program development through startup and commissioning; this involves preparing project plans and status updates, as needed.
  • Update and maintain documentation for all field modifications to be up-to-date & accurate.
  • Assist with other tasks or projects, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required; Associates degree in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Programming, or a related technical field of study is preferred.
  • 2 years of professional experience working with Industrial Electrical systems.
  • Professional experience with water and/or wastewater process control technology is a plus!
  • Valid Electrical Contractor License in VA is a plus!
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiar with the latest edition of National Electrical Code [NEC].
  • Familiarity with the National Fire Protection Association [NFPA], especially as it applies to safety and NFPA 70E.
  • Must be able to form, bend. and route aluminum, EMT, rigid, and PVC conduits up to 2" in diameter per industry standards.
  • Ability to utilize the following test equipment: Digital VOM, Analog, Megger, Signal Generator, Pressure/Level/Flow Calibrator, "Smart" Instruments, Programmable Recorders, Calibrators (4-20MA, etc.), Oscilloscope, Voltage/Current Recorders, Motor Testing Equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to work at heights and on roofs, using a ladder or scaffolding.
  • Working knowledge of 120/208V and 277/480V 3 Phase, 4 wire voltage systems.
  • Ability to assist on medium voltage applications (up to 7200V), as required.
  • Working experience with general wiring practices as they apply to single & three-phase motors, transformers, lighting fixtures, receptacles, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to work with outside contractors, utility crews (electrical and telephone), and other company departments to solve problems.
  • Understanding of small air compressor systems as well as associated Instruments & Controls.
  • Thorough working knowledge of motor starters (size 00-6) and their control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems, as required; this includes the ability to disassemble, clean, test, and reassemble a motor starter.
  • Understanding of AC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), DC Drives, PLC's, and the ability to diagnose problems and repair equipment, where feasible; experience working with Industrial Electronics as well as motor-operated valves is a plus!
  • Familiarity with emergency generators, transfer switches, and 125 VDC battery systems.
  • Working knowledge of electronics and various instrumentation signals (4-20 MA, 1-5 VDC, tachometers, capacitance, radar, etc.) and the ability to troubleshoot electronic circuits.
  • Understanding of protective relays, switchgear operation, and synchronous motor control (at 2400V and above) is a plus!
  • A familiarity with satellite & radio communications equipment as well as SCADA systems.
  • Must be able to comprehend job specifications and engineering drawings to complete tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics and to use the same in troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in the use of all electrical trade hand tools, including hand-held power tools.
  • Capable of working independently while following written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations during off-hours with availability for overtime on short notice.
  • Capable of operating computers for Aqua' s asset management system and basic programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Word; this person shall generate and complete work orders in our Maintenance Connection system, and complete preventative maintenance, inspection, and repair checklist templates accordingly.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Perform sedentary work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Working conditions include travel to work sites of Aqua, VA; occasional overnight travel may be required.
