Responsibilities: Our Construction Equipment Group is growing, and this position is open to further support our company needs. We are seeking a full-time Accounts Receivables / Credit and Collections Specialist for our Detroit, MI branch. The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to, splitting time between review of credit risk and collection of delinquent accounts. This person works closely with all sales and billing departments to coordinate credit and collection activities and will report to the Credit Manager.

Regular responsibilities include:

  • Resolve delinquent accounts and contact customers regarding overdue amounts
  • Review and manage the risk associated with new and ongoing credit accounts
  • Negotiate settlements with delinquent accounts
  • Issue demand letters and escalate accounts for legal action or bad debt write-off
  • Maintain clean reconciled customer account balances by managing open credits, reconciling customer and internal accounts
  • Collect for high activity accounts such as Fortune 100 companies
  • Handle and manage all media forms of incoming and outgoing
  • Resolve invoicing, cash application, Purchase Order and sales tax concerns
  • Process new customer credit applications, account setups, and make credit risk decisions for commercial and consumer accounts
  • Manage or utilize customer portal accounts for billing, payment, or PO required items
  • Make and adjust credit hold/release and credit limit decisions
  • Maintain audit required recordkeeping and documentation and update month-end and periodic departmental reports
  • Complete waiver forms and vendor set up forms
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time
  • Conduct research, skip-tracing and investigation required to verify legal entities and locate debtors and assets

Qualifications:

  • HS diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with commercial and consumer legal or judgement collections preferred
  • Knowledge of Notice of Furnishings, Lien Filings and Waivers preferred
  • Knowledge of FDCPA and FCRA preferred
  • Experience with cash posting preferred
  • Experience in a sales-oriented dealership environment desirable
  • Mortgage underwriting or equivalent desirable
  • Working with a complex high volume credit portfolio
  • Computer Skills - Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, Teams, eXtend, Power BI
  • Language Skills - High: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills - Basic: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Reasoning Ability - Basic: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use hands, talk/hear, sit, will reach with hands and arms; Occasionally will stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Frequently will lift up to 10 pounds; Occasionally will lift up to 50 pounds
