McLean's Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is recruiting MSWs for our new Child Partial Hospital Program--a new program for 7-13 year olds struggling with irritability, suicide, and self-injury. This program is a unique "collaboratory"--striving to provide evidence-based therapy and medication management--while also catalyzing new research about these 3 problems--to improve care and outcomes. MSWs are a critical part of this multi-disciplinary team in this novel and important program.

The Clinical Social Worker Associate works in a Partial program and is accountable/responsible for the day-to-day treatment, management, disposition, and aftercare plan for their assigned patients with particular attention to taking responsibility for the prudent use of clinical resources. The Clinical Social Worker Associate is a key member of the interdisciplinary team, providing effective care including clinical evaluation, intervention and planning for patients with complex psychosocial risks. The position requires flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and clinical experience with children and/or adolescents. Experience in the delivery of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is strongly preferred. All duties and responsibilities are performed under an independently licensed mental health professional's supervision.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide ongoing assessment and formulation of the patient's needs to update their plan of care, including responsibility for the timely completion of a Treatment Plan that will satisfy clinical and regulatory requirements.

2. Provide developmentally appropriate clinical services to patients and their families, which will include case management, individual therapy, skills (and skills application) groups, family therapy, and parent coaching.

3. Coordinate the delivery of services by the patient's multidisciplinary treatment team.

4. Act as primary liaison with family, referrers, schools, community agencies and professionals to develop a timely and comprehensive discharge plan that includes access to services for patients and, where appropriate, family members.

5. Assist in the mentoring of Community Residence Counselors/post-baccalaureate fellows.

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

1. Manage the patient's care in a clinically and fiscally sound manner; where appropriate, be the designated contact with managed care organizations.

2. Ensure the timely completion of all documentation and other required paperwork needed to facilitate patient evaluation, transition, and billing (e.g., treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, psychosocial assessment, signed releases, patient care referral forms, etc.).

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and competency to enhance patient care and job performance.

2. Contribute to the efficient operation of the program, the hospital and, where appropriate, their clinical department through teamwork, cooperation and participation in problem solving activities.

Qualifications

Education: Master's in Social Work (MSW) required

License: Attaining Massachusetts LCSW licensure is not required upon hire to perform the essential functions of this job, however, as a condition of continued employment, it is a requirement to receive LCSW licensure within 12 months of hire, or upon the one-year anniversary of employment along with the annual review. Failure to attain this licensure will result in termination of employment - failing to meet a condition of employment.

Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances preventing an employee from attaining licensure must be approved by the Director of Social Work.

Experience:

* Experience in providing a range of clinical services including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning

* Experience in a managed care environment and the capacity to work collaboratively with managed care organizations

* Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff

* Experience working clinically with children and/or adolescents

* Experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapies strongly preferred

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:

* Broad range of clinical skills including psychiatric assessment, capacity to formulate a case and develop a therapeutic alliance, and plan treatment and aftercare

* Crisis stabilization

* Family support and intervention

* Clinical privileges or eligibility for privileges in their discipline in individual, family, group, and couples treatment

* Familiarity with the discharge planning process as well as community resources, public service delivery systems and consumer entitlement programs

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Ability to work collaboratively within a rapidly changing system of care

* Basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic systems or online systems to access and/or maintain personal employment-related data, electronic medical records, satisfy required annual trainings, and use job-specific clinical and administrative applications
