THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is seeking to fill a full-time Fisheries Biologist 2 position with the Bureau of Fisheries, Lake Erie Unit (Area 9). DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This Fisheries Biologist 2 will serve as a Pennsylvania representative on Lake Erie Committee Task Groups as assigned by the Lake Erie Research Unit Leader and maintain standard operating procedures as per interagency assessment program protocol and conduct fish dissections to obtain biological and life history information on Lake Erie fish stocks. This position also maintains and oversees the care of Lake Erie Research Unit (LERU) vessels, ground gear, mechanized deck equipment, and limnological assessment equipment. You will also have the opportunity to participate in educational and public outreach events and attend agency, bureau, division, or other meetings as directed by the unit leader for LERU programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Fisheries Management Area 9, Lake Erie.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Fisheries Biologist 1, PFBC (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of professional experience conducting fish studies, fish investigations, or fish research and a bachelor's degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Class C driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
