Job Summary
Auburn University's College of Education is excited to begin the search for a Communications and Marketing Directorto join our team of innovative thinkers and doers, working together to meet society's education and health challenges. We're looking for an energetic, talented and performance minded professional to support our mission of building better futures for all.

The Communications and Marketing Director provides strategic leadership and creative direction for all communication and marketing activities in the college. The director creates, manages, and implements messaging strategies to advance the dean's vision and the College of Education's communication and marketing objectives. Leading a creative team focused on communicating the college's story, this role furthers the college's engagement with key audiences and stakeholders.
Directing and managing the college's communication and marketing platforms, the director guides, reviews, edits, and creates content for the college's communication and marketing platforms including the college website, digital magazine, calendar, newsletters, emails, and more. This critical role manages the college's brand, ensuring compliance with university branding while creating a unique identity and greater connection with audiences.
The Communications and Marketing director serves on the college's leadership council, providing guidance on communications, public relations, and marketing opportunities and initiatives, elevating the college and its research, outreach, and academic initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Create the college's storytelling strategy and direct content creation and distribution across a range of channels.
  • Lead a communications and marketing team responsible for creating, updating, maintaining, and redesigning print and digital collateral materials and content for the college website, various newsletters, college calendar, and social media platforms.
  • Provide editing and review for collegewide print and digital communications to ensure they follow strategic messaging and are appropriate for each audience.
  • Create targeted communications and marketing plans to guide the college's strategy and tactics.
  • As needed, provide remarks, talking points, and speeches for the dean.
  • Write, edit, and redirect the generation of news release copy, publication material, and web content.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations efforts.
  • Serve as the college's liaison with the university's Office of Communications and Marketing.
  • Work closely with the Office of Advancement, at university and college levels, in accordance with stated goals and objectives.
  • Advise, collaborate, and consult with departments/programs, schools, dean, university leaders, and faculty regarding communications, public relations, and marketing opportunities and initiatives.
  • Manage the strategy, content, and distribution for college communication platforms including the college's website, digital magazine, internal and external newsletters, and more.
  • Develop and manage department budget to include reviewing and approving financial reports, vouchers, and acquisitions.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field.
  • 6 years of experience in marketing and communications services.

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of communication and marketing theories, concepts, techniques, mediums, and strategies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style and journalistic writing conventions.
  • Ability to write for various audiences and in various formats.
  • Successful track record developing informational, instructional, promotional materials and brand building.
