Another Source's client, Fresno State University is recruiting a Financial Reporting Accountant to join their Accounting Services team in Fresno, California.

Internally this will be titled Accountant III (3)

About the role:

This position reports directly to the General Accounting and Reporting Manager and is a member of Accounting Services. Accounting Services is under the Division of Administrative Services, which reports to the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer.

Incumbents in the Accountant III classification perform advanced professional accounting work involving the implementation and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices to the resolution of a wide variety of complex accounting problems. The Accountant III serves as a high-level individual contributor providing expertise and direction to other professional and/or technical staff.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $6,800 - $7,500/monthly, which equals to 81,600 - 90,000.

Responsibilities:

Monthly close duties:

  • Coordinate the monthly close and ensure all transactions for the month have been recorded.
  • Ensure all reconciliations have been prepared timely and all prior month reconciling items have been resolved prior to closing the month.
  • Open and close accounting periods.
  • Review staff's work for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and prepare review notes for staff to resolve deficiencies and signoff that all review notes have been resolved.
  • Analyze fixed asset transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and reconcile to the ledgers and financial reports and schedules.
  • Run reports, queries, and review for abnormal balances, accuracy, completeness, appropriateness and investigate and resolve findings and report results to the manager.
  • Perform other monthly close duties as assigned.

Year-end legal close duties:

  • Coordinate the year-end close and ensure all transactions for the year have been recorded.
  • Prepare closing task list and assign tasks to staff.
  • Prepare and coordinate the year-end closing memo to the campus.
  • Lead weekly year-end closing meetings.
  • Ensure all reconciliations have been prepared timely and all reconciling items have been resolved prior to closing the year.
  • Ensure all annual legal analysis, reports, entries, and year-end trees, closing rules, and year-end processes have been successfully and accurately completed.
  • Read and understand the Legal reporting manual.

GAAP and financial reporting duties:

  • Coordinate the GAAP close and assign related tasks to staff.
  • Ensure all transactions have been recorded.
  • Review the reporting package for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare and/or review auxiliary GASB and FASB financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review/Prepare Prepared By Client (PBC) schedules.
  • Review fluctuation analysis.
  • Review/Prepare GAAP entries.
  • Review sample selections.
  • Read and understand the GAAP reporting manual.
  • Lead campus implementations of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Perform other financial reporting duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field; or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Equivalent to five years of professional level accounting experience; Governmental accounting experience is desirable.
