Job Summary

Manages daily accounting and reporting activities, in assigned areas, for FIU Foundation. Assists the Controller and Assistant Controller with developing and implementing accounting procedures to improve compliance with institutional and Federal/State regulations. Establishes, interprets, and analyzes complex accounting functions. Analyzes, balances and researches financial data discrepancies.

  • Manages and coordinates daily accounting functions of the FIU Foundation, Inc. of Florida International University by creating detailed schedules, financial analysis of accounts and transactions.
  • Creates required notes disclosures to the Audited Financial Statements.
  • Reviews accounting and reporting environment to look for opportunities to create and/or enhance efficiencies in reporting and the reporting process.
  • Researches new accounting pronouncements to determine their applicability to the Foundation. Assists the Controller in interpreting and implementing new accounting pronouncements which may include developing new reports and/or schedules. Assists the Controller with special projects.
  • Prepares and reviews reconciliations of accounts and subledgers, journal entries, supporting schedules and other work papers, as well as analyzes balances and researches discrepancies in financial data as they related to the assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for reviewing and analyzing the pledge receivables for Foundation, including but not limited to write offs, adjustments, and past due pledges to create accounting entries, adjustments, and supporting audit schedules and summaries The analysis serves to assist management in reviewing key metrics, trends and to inform decision making.
  • Coordinates with various departments to review and establish new Foundation projects. Creates letter of agreements with the Office of Research and Economic Development for projects which involve research
  • Serves as primary liaison between the Foundation and Office of Research and Economic Development for related compliance matters, no cost and cost extensions on projects, application and development of policies and procedures, etc.
  • Works with the University community and outside constituents to develop and implement strategies, procedures and processes based on best practices to improve customer service standards. Responds to and resolves issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Provides leadership for customer service delivery consistent with the goals and objects of the University, including, training on the creation of new projects, including research projects, for the University community .
  • May assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial reports, summaries and analysis for tracking metrics, trends and providing ad hoc information to management..
  • Prepares, analyzes, and reviews any expenses incurred by Office of Research and Economic Development, which need to be reimbursed by Foundation. This analysis ensures the expense is inline with the approved budget (donor intent), there are available funds, and the required documentation (LOA, NCE, etc) has been received and completed.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of Revenue Suspense on a monthly basis. Prepare any journal entries to reclass donations from revenue suspense to newly established project in accordance with donor intent once proper documentation is received.
  • Maintains and updates the summary of project descriptions and project support as needed, due to new projects setup, amendments to gift agreements, ORED letter of agreements and budget modifications, completed reports, or other documentation.
  • Responsible for documenting any life insurance policies in which Foundation is owner and beneficiary. Update any documentation and issue premium payment(s) to life insurance company, as needed. Communicate with development team any past due/unpaid pledge installments for follow up with donor(s).
  • Works with various University departments/units and Foundation team to review the required in-take forms when event proceeds will be received by the Foundation.
  • Works with Gift Compliance & Administration department to review any gift agreements which have various financial calculations, such as gift fee, budgets, etc.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related business field, to include a minimum of 6 credits in Accounting, and six (6) years of directly-related experience; OR Master's degree in Accounting or related business field, or an MBA and four (4) years of directly-related experience.

Desired Qualifications

Non-profit and GASB Accounting experience.
Knowledge of financial statement preparation.
