The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking a Press Secretary to join our leadership team!
This is a high-profile, high-exposure position, within our Office of Public & Employee Communications (OPEC) -- one of the busiest press offices in the State of California. This role serves as the primary spokesperson for the Department, on a wide range of the most complex correctional issues before various media audiences. In addition to being the lead Information Officer for OPEC, this position oversees the work of all Information Officers in the department.
If you are someone with exceptional leadership, communication, team-building and interpersonal skills to implement a broad range of complex media relations policy and communication strategies, as well as an understanding of how traditional communications intersect with cutting edge video, social media, and online content, this is a job for you! Our ideal candidate is a communications leader with a passion for media, trends, and storytelling focused on communicating a cohesive narrative for the Department to diverse audiences. Top candidates must be fluent with social media and digital asset tools, be adept at communicating with media and fostering relationships, be a strategic thinker and an innovative leader who will play a critical frontline role in positioning CDCR at the local, state, and national level. Top candidates must be a committed collaborator who has demonstrated leadership experience bringing together internal and external stakeholders to create and maintain a diverse and effective communications and external affairs program that broadly reaches targeted audiences.
This is primarily an in-office role, where remote work is occasional, and travel is required. The physical office location is currently in downtown Sacramento, CA at the Department's Headquarters.
