Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under limited direction, assist in coordinating activities to enrich and enhance each child's cognitive, social, emotional, physical and creative development in a laboratory setting. Model best practices while supporting lab experiences for university students and faculty.

Reporting to Center Director, the lead teacher is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the Center's care. Under the direction of the Director, the lead teacher and Master Teacher collaborate to ensure that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered, and that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other teachers at the CDC to ensure adherence to quality standards in accordance with Center guidelines, state and local requirements and national accreditation; implement improvements
  • Maintain communication with families and community through appropriate outreach activities
  • Abide by CDC and ENMU policies and procedures, child care licensing and quality standards, teacher licensure requirements and standards, and NAEYC's Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement
  • Fulfill all record-keeping responsibilities for the Center
  • Development and maintain NAYEC Classroom Portfolio as required
  • Attend planned staff meetings, Center events, and parent/guardian meetings
  • Provide a stimulating, safe, and engaging environment for children and students to explore and learn
  • Model best practices for children, students, peers, and families
  • Develop, implement, and maintain daily lesson plans and binder
  • Develop and complete child portfolios and review with parents each semester
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, special education or related field and a minimum of one year of experience directly related to the duties specified is required. The position requires clearance of a criminal records check and a current first aid/CPR certification (or completed within 60 days of hire). The position requires annual training per licensing. Teaching license preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation
Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both inside and outside under conditions involving noise and constant activity with small children
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • May be exposed to blood borne pathogens
