Position Highlights The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona is accepting applications for a dynamic and conscientious Infectious Disease Pharmacist to conduct antimicrobial stewardship education and outreach within the State of Arizona. The ID Pharmacist will plan, implement and monitor educational and outreach activities involving hospitals, long-term care, outpatient and other healthcare settings. The primary objective is to provide tools and consultation with healthcare facilities across Arizona to ensure appropriate and judicious use of antimicrobial agents. This position requires a self-motivated and independent individual who will display a high degree of organization, professionalism and cultural versatility, and who possesses analytical skills and attentional to details in setting priorities while managing a wide variety of duties from basic administrative tasks to program development initiatives. The ID Pharmacist will promote antimicrobial stewardship activities to improve antimicrobial prescribing and use in Arizona and will disseminate educational materials to facilities as well as provide technical assistance and training to a variety of health care professionals. The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona is currently ranked among the top 5 colleges of pharmacy in the nation, in both education and research with students on both the Tucson and Phoenix campuses. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the planning, implementing and monitoring of antimicrobial stewardship outreach activities to advance the goal of improving appropriate antimicrobial use.
  • Develop educational materials on antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance in coordinator with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).
  • Build rapport with leadership at healthcare facilities in the State to promote collaboration in efforts to promote appropriate antimicrobial use.
  • Co-chair HAI Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee Meetings.
  • Conduct on-site and virtual visits to healthcare facilities to educate leadership, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other staff on antimicrobial stewardship programs.
  • Provide consultation, tools, and training for ambulatory centers, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and dialysis centers in coordinator with ADHS.
  • Serve as an ambassador representing ADHS and the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy to develop collaborative relationships with Health care communities.
  • Provide written quarterly reports on activities and progress.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved practices and methods.
  • Assure compliance with all pertinent College, University, State, and Federal rules, policies and laws.
  • Provide expertise on pharmacology and therapeutics for ADHS.
  • Provide expertise and support during public health emergency responses.
  • Accommodate some teaching responsibilities at the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy at The University of Arizona.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities based on program needs, including managing, and tracking multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform tasks with little supervision by using strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to write and produce reports, technical references, and other materials.
  • Knowledge and understanding of appropriate antimicrobial use.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with professionals and teach in a cooperative manner.
  • Strong clinical practice, management and leadership skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in pharmacy (PharmD or B.S. with equivalent clinical training)
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in Arizona or eligible to obtain license by first day of employment)
Preferred Qualifications *PGY2 infectious Diseases training and/or Board Certified Infectious Disease Pharmacist credential. * Expertise working on antimicrobial stewardship initiatives within a healthcare facility setting.
