Description

Responsible for nutritional management of patients at Brigham and Women's Center for Weight Management and Wellness (CWMW). Performs initial nutrition assessment and follow-up education with patients focused on healthy eating and behavior modification. This position requires extensive knowledge in the treatment of obesity and the use of behavioral modalities to effect change. The dietitian must possess strong interpersonal and teaching skills to communicate information to patients and colleagues.

  1. Evaluation and formulation of individual treatment plan(s) for patients seeking care at CWMW, and long-term co-management with the rest of the Center's team, focused on healthy eating patterns and behavior change.
  2. Documents, monitors, and communicates nutrition care plans through written and verbal systems. Documents in medical record based on established standards of practice.
  3. Provides patient support and education aimed at improving and enhancing health and weight outcomes, in both individual and group settings.
  4. Follows progress of patients on follow-up visits and makes appropriate changes in care plan as appropriate.
  5. Communicates with multidisciplinary staff regarding any nutrition- or health-related issues influencing the overall progress of the patient; participates in patient care meetings to discuss patient care issues.
  6. Participates in program events, including but not limited to group sessions, group classes, information sessions, preoperative weight loss groups, bariatric forums, and support groups.
  7. Prepares patient education materials to distribute to patients.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree
  • Registered and Licensed Dietitian
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in counseling and behavior modification techniques.
  • Knowledge of metabolism in relation to clinical nutrition
  • Knowledge of food chemistry and macro/micro nutrient composition of foods
  • Basic interpersonal skills for interaction with a diverse group of people in the work setting (including patients and families, physicians, mangers, physicians assistants, medical assistants, and administrative assistants)
  • High level of analytical skills to interpret laboratory data, identify and plan individual weight loss programs and discriminate diet claims and their physiologic effect
  • High level of interpersonal skills to provide "best practice" individual and group counseling to patients in program
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment
