Overview

Shape the future of science and global health by joining ATCC's SPARC Program for the 2024-2025 academic year (September through May).

This partnership with Universities at Shady Grove offers paid, part-time career opportunities with a flexible schedule in Gaithersburg, MD.

We're hiring multiple Associate Biologists, each specializing in one of the six specialties below.

1. Cell Biology - Immuno-Oncology

    Perform phenotypic and functional assays using microscopy and flow cytometry.
  • Preferred: Interest in cancer or immunology, and basic understanding of laboratory techniques and aseptic technique.

2. Microbiology - Infectious Disease Standards

  • Perform real-time PCR and assist with product development.
  • Preferred: Interest in infectious diseases and molecular biology techniques (including real-time PCR and digital PCR).

3. Microbiology - Microbial Data Curation and Laboratory Experiments

  • Assist in building the ATCC collection and refine microbial data.
  • Preferred: General microbiology techniques and basic understanding of Python, R, or Power BI.

4. MPS - Stem Cells

  • Conduct studies using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs).
  • Preferred: Experience with mammalian cell culture and understanding of basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, western blot, immunostaining).

5. MPS - Cancer Models

  • Conduct experiments to study the effects of chemotherapeutics on cancer cell cultures.
  • Preferred: Interest in cancer research, understanding of basic laboratory techniques (pipetting and aseptic technique), and previous experience with cell culture.

6. MPS - Primary Cells

  • Perform basic cell culture and conduct various cell and molecular biology-based lab experiments.
  • Preferred: Aseptic technique and understanding of basic molecular biology techniques (qPCR, western blot, ELISA, Immunostaining) and mammalian cell culture.

7. Sales & Marketing - Product Marketing

  • Perform market research and competitive intelligence. Develop and conduct voice of customer surveys. Conduct catalog improvements for cell line products
  • Preferred: Interest in scientific sales and marketing, gaining entrepreneurship and business acumen skills, and prior advanced coursework in molecular or cell biology.
Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Operations: Manufacturing or quality control (QC) testing of biological products by following standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other controlled documents. Maintain laboratory safety, operations, equipment, and supplies.
  • Documentation: Maintain production batch records in compliance with good laboratory practices. Collect, analyze, and report data, ensuring meticulous documentation.
  • Continuous Learning and Problem-Solving: Master aseptic technique, gain experience with various cell lines and organisms, and tackle routine challenges in alignment with organizational policies.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a life science bachelor's or master's degree at Universities at Shady Grove.
  • Good aseptic technique, attention to detail, strong communications skills, and a desire to learn are required.
