Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Network Admin II, Converged ensures the stable operation of the in-house computer network (LAN, WAN, wireless and VOIP/Video). This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. The duties of this position can be broad and may include such tasks as installing new routing and or switching hardware, wireless access points, video conferencing equipment, Digital Media systems and VOIP handsets and other devices, adding and removing faculty and staff from the voice mail systems as necessary. May assist in the installation of new infrastructure such as cabling systems and security systems. The position will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. This position is a member of a 24/7/365 global department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Designs and deploys company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware
  2. Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
  3. Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  4. Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
  5. Configures networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  6. Monitors network performance and troubleshoots problem areas as needed
  7. Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices
  8. Ensures network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances. Including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software
  9. Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  10. Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports
  11. Participates in managing all network security solutions
  12. Performs server and security audits, and system backups and recovery
  13. Manages and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team
  14. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Requires full working knowledge of job responsibilities, procedures, practices; advanced training, or basic knowledge in a professional field. Requires general understanding of purpose and operations outside own work unit

  • Ability to seek out and identifies multi-faceted problems and opportunities, taking immediate action to address them, recognize immediate obstacles to completing work and initiates action to address a need without being directed
  • Ability to follow IT procedures to complete work, but may recommend changes to departmental processes
  • Ability to maintain tasks, projects and activities in the IT system of Record (S-NOW)

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate certification in area of responsibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced certification in area of responsibility
Salary

Hiring salary range is $69,679 - $80,131.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
