Job Summary

Job Function Summary:
Involves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers. Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations. (Note, for only clinic operations, see Ambulatory Administration job function.)

Generic Scope
Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.

Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director, the Nurse Manager oversees the clinical operations of the multi-specialty clinics at the Bayfront Outpatient Clinic site. The Nurse Manager will provide and organize clinical support for faculty and residents within the practices and take the lead role in integrating all aspects of the clinical session to ensure timeliness and efficiency of each patient visit. They work with the leadership team to identify opportunities for improved practice operations through the oversight and participation in projects. They work with staff to develop, monitor and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of nursing care. They supervise all clinical staff, facilitating positive interactions among staff, patients and other departments within the organization.

The Nurse Manager maintains operations and facilities in a state of constant readiness for regulatory inspections. They are repsonsible for assuring licensure, competency and skills training and documentation for all clinical staff. They serves as a liason to Ambulatory Nursing Administration to introduce new quality guidelines and to meet new standards. They are responsible for overseeing ordering of supplies and medications for the practices.

Registered nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses and Medical Assistants will report to the Nurse Manager.

Department Description

The UCSF Bayfront Medical Clinic is a clinical site that offers Primary Care Services and Adult multi-specialty services. There are core specialties located in this site 5 days per week in combination with multiple specialty services that are scheduled throughout the week. The various specialty services provide clinical appointments and procedures at this site. The clinical staff includes Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, Patient Care Coordinators, Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Vocational Nurses.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience
  • 2-3 years of progressive supervisory experience
  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.

License/Certification

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California and / or licensure in relevant clinical specialty.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
