Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree.
  • Applicable professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Office of Environmental Health, Safety, and Emergency Management is to promote healthy, safe, and resilient campus operations to protect the campus community and environment in support of the University's core mission. The department is committed to creating a safe campus environment through the implementation of comprehensive and professional safety and emergency management programs.

This position assists the Director with daily oversight and management of the Environmental Health and Safety Division. This position directly supervises and leads a team of safety professionals under the assigned division. The incumbent will also be responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing health and safety policies and programs, and assist with future program development.

The Assistant Director of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for assisting in the management of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) division. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the assigned division.
  • Provide guidance and direction to professional staff involved in service delivery under the EHS division.
  • Direct the review of applicable projects and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Participate in the strategic planning for assigned program areas and assist the Director in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan.
  • Establish performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and implement applicable policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations as related to program areas of responsibility.
  • Serve as an EHS representative and subject matter expert on a variety of committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director.
