Overview

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Machine Operator with the ability to use a variety of standard machine shop equipment, machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to complete assigned tasks. This may include material preparation, hardware installation, deburr, rework and repair of typical fabricated products. A person in this role will make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, etc., will check and inspect parts against specified tolerances, and may perform detailed visual inspection of features and surface defects for compliance with drawings. The work will be semi-routine in nature.


Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Hardware Installation (Dowel Pins, Helicoils etc.).
  2. Repair/rework of assembled products.
  3. Deburr & Cleaning of fabricated hardware including critical transitions and features.
  4. Chasing and tapping micro-miniature threaded holes.
  5. Raw Material prep support including issuing, cutting, documenting of certified raw materials to fabrication orders for all machine shop work centers.
  6. Inspection of machined parts for conformity and quality using precision measuring instruments. i.e. surface plate and height gauge, calipers, visual inspection under up to 10X magnification etc. The ability to use a CMM or video comparator is a plus.
  7. Verification of paperwork accuracy. This would include ensuring that the parts produced meet the requirements of the associated drawings, travelers, routers and processes.
  8. Cleaning parts using degreaser, vapor-hone as required and alcohol.
  9. Maintain workstation, equipment, tools, and machinery.
  10. Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety policies and practices.
  11. Collaborate in team meetings and activities.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

  1. Can use vertical and horizontal saws, shears, drill presses, grinders and various hand tools commonly used in machining. The ability to use a manual lathe or mill is a plus.
  2. Can perform the work of fabricating, reworking and repairing microwave parts using various standard tools and equipment. This may include hand tools and precision measuring equipment.
  3. Uses ASME Y 14.100 and ASME Y 14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) knowledge to interpret documentation as well as fabricate and inspect products.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma, GED or equivalent experience is required.
  • Four (4) years minimum of related experience.
  • Experience in a machine shop environment.
  • Detail-oriented, with good manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to read engineering design drawings, blueprints and schematics
  • Knowledge of XYZ axis
  • Prior mechanical/electrical with troubleshooting skills are helpful
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference given to those who have worked in Aerospace or Defense Industry or manufacturing/production environment

Salary Range: $21 - $29 hourly (San Diego, CA)

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base bay. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well business results.
