PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Support the work operations of the journal Meridians: feminism, race, transnationalism's Editor, partnering in the timely and professional production of each issue. As the Editorial Assistant for the journal, serve as its first point of contact with authors, reviewers and the press, representingthe journal, Smith College, and the college's academic mission with professionalism and integrity. As well as other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Editorial Operations: Assist the Meridians Editor in the publication of the journal. Coordinate workflow and communication between contributors, editor, guest editors, editorial board, and publisher. Coordinate all aspects of the submissions and publication process including intake, reviewer assignments, dispositions, auditing of Scholar One, issue content development and management, copy-editing, proof-reading, fact-checking, and copyright agreements, to ensure excellence in the quality of the publication and a high degree of professionalism in its operations.

Communication: Support the journal Editor in sustaining the flow and quality of peer review, timely dispositions, issue content development, issue marketing and branding, and communication and collaboration with the press.

Administrative Support: Respond to inquiries and provide general information for publishers, editorial board, guest editors, reviewers, and contributors. Perform related tasks as needed.

Other Duties as Assigned: Projects that support the overall direction of the journal and its integration with the college.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Must have a minimum of a Master's degree in a related field and/or work towards a Master's or Doctoral degree in a related field. Current graduate students are encouraged to apply.

Minimum of three years relevant experience in women's and gender studies, transnational, race or area studies, ethnic studies, or a related field; and/or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Operational and transactional experience within an academic or intellectual enterprise. Experience with budget management and communications via print, web and social media. Minimum two years working with undergraduates and faculty to support their learning, teaching, and/or research preferred.

This position will work about 17.5/hour a week.
