Job Summary:

An open rank research service professional position is available to assist the Principal Investigators (PI) on multiple projects in the Department of Dermatology. We are looking for a research service professional to join our team who is passionate about translational research, developing therapies and diagnostic tools for rare conditions. Our research focuses on a variety of projects related to regenerative medicine, cellular aging, and stem cell therapy development. Among the projects, we study cell rejuvenation and develop clinically relevant cocktails of factors to overcome cell aging. We develop an induced pluripotent stem cell-based therapies to treat inherited skin blistering diseases. The team works closely with the Gates Biomanufacturing Facility (GBF) in advancing cell therapies developed by the laboratory into clinical manufacturing. In the laboratory, we utilize induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), CRISPR/Cas9, mouse xenograft models, human cell culture techniques, organoids, and other cell and molecular biology techniques.

The successful candidate will perform molecular and cellular biology experiments such as immunohistochemical staining, western blotting, molecular cloning, cell culture, transfections, qPCR, ddPCR, differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into a variety of cell types, and CRISPR-Cas9-mediated gene targeting. Laboratory duties will involve receiving laboratory reagents and making stock solutions. The candidate will also work with mouse models and perform mouse surgeries. The candidate must have good organizational skills, excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, excellent record keeping abilities, and willingness to learn. Development of new techniques and independence will be expected and encouraged. This is a full-time position and will require occasional work on the weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

ENTRY LEVEL

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PIs) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Support the analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve processes, workflows and related issues
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operational and management needs
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

  • All the above entry level duties with the addition of:
  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
  • Independently review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist and train junior team members

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

ENTRY LEVEL

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) year professional level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

ENTRY LEVEL

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Experience working with mammalian cell culture

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
  • Experience working with mammalian cell cultures
  • Experience working with human primary cell lines
  • Experience working with laboratory animals
  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemical techniques

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Entry: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate: $48,970 - $62,290

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
