Overview

LMI is seeking a Senior Laboratory Scientist to join our DHS CWMD Operations Support Directorate, BioWatch Team. This position requires an Active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain DHS Suitability. While the Client's location is in Washington, DC, this is an Offsite position.

With the threat of transnational terrorism and ongoing development of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) by nations potentially hostile to the U.S., DHS has taken steps to integrate the full range of its radiological, nuclear, chemical, and biological capabilities to enhance the nation's abilities to prevent terrorists and other threat actors from using WMD, and support operational partners in closing capability gaps along adversary pathways. As the focal point for this effort, DHS Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Operations Support Directorate (OSD) requires advisory and assistance services to effectively operationalize CWMD by developing and enhancing the capabilities of the DHS Components as well as federal, state, local, territorial and tribal (FSLTT) partners. LMI provides advisory and assistance services (program support, training and exercise, medical operations, information integration, requirements generation, and operational coordination) to CWMD Operations Support Directorate (OSD).

Responsibilities
    Performs the functions of a technical expert in the relevant scientific field in support of major programs or system development.
  • Applies scientific expertise in defining and resolving laboratory operations and systems issues, performing analysis, and developing plans and requirements in the subject-matter area for complex systems.
  • Provide technical review, comments, and recommendations on laboratory operations reports received from various sources.
  • Conduct operational scientific and technical analysis with attention to details and accuracy.
  • Supports planning activities for multicenter studies, and short-term testing activities to resolve technical issues.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of analysis, evaluations, and recommendations for proper implementation of programs and systems.
  • Coordinates technical consultation requests and tracks to satisfactory outcomes.
  • Manages taskings from inception through completion.
  • Develops and tracks plans for regular review and update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, guidance, and other tasks.
  • Coordinates stakeholder engagement, and plans and facilitates meetings.
  • Leads a team of analysts and/or scientists as required.
Qualifications
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Must have 10 years of experience in laboratory-based science generating analytical results from testing of clinical or environmental samples.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Previous Advisory & Assistance Services (A&AS) or Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proven history of successfully working on a team with individuals of varying levels of expertise.
  • This position requires an Active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain DHS Suitability.
