We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Technology Development Engineer in Houston, Texas. This position will support the fundamental development of a wide variety of technology concepts and projects that are a focus of Low Carbon Ventures and its partners.

The Technology Development Engineer will be responsible for scaling-up laboratory processes to pilot and commercial scales by developing and implementing kinetic models for process transition and optimization. Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the scale-up of laboratory processes to pilot and commercial scales.
  • Develop and implement kinetic models for chemical reactions, including reaction mechanisms, rate constants, and reaction pathways.
  • Utilize computational tools and software to simulate and optimize chemical processes.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate kinetic models and optimize process parameters.
  • Identify critical process variables and develop strategies for process control.
  • Work closely with experimental groups to translate new product concepts into scalable processes.
  • Apply expertise in various reactor types, including fixed-bed, plug-flow, and fluidized-bed reactors to address challenges related to process scalability, safety, and efficiency.

  • Optimize reactor design and operation parameters for efficient and safe production.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations during scale-up activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, chemists, and production teams to troubleshoot process issues and to ensure seamless process transitions.
  • Provide technical support during pilot and commercial production phases.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to work in the United States a must.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in process development and scale-up with a proven track record of successfully transitioning processes from the laboratory scale to pilot and commercial production.
  • Proficiency in kinetic modeling using software tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, COMSOL, MATLAB).
  • Experience in new technology development, applying data to contemplate new theories and approaches, and using innovation to drive to commercial success.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of chemical reaction kinetics and thermodynamics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective communication and project management skills.
  • Possesses a collaborative nature and actively participates in teams; actively seeks continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices and procedures.
