We are looking for a results-driven Senior Counsel to join the Follett team.

The Sr Councel's primary role and responsibility will be the provision of day-to-day counsel to Follett Higher Education Group, LLC, on general commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution matters. In addition, the role will require support for digital initiatives firm-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate various types of commercial agreements relating to the business (such as service agreements and license agreements); be a strategic partner with the business team as it works to develop new product and service offerings.
  • Be expected to demonstrate meaningful, "hands-on" experience supporting the requirements of digital sales efforts.
  • Liaise with operations, client support teams, and other in-house counsel.
  • Provide the business team with advice on legal, regulatory, and governance issues.
  • Special projects, supporting the business as it relates to legal issues, etc.

  • Specialized Advanced degree (J.D.) required.
  • Licensed in good standing to practice law in the State of Illinois.
  • 5-7 years of experience, which must include at least 6 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, or with an in-house contract attorney.
  • Strong understanding of contract issues and able to demonstrate proficiency in interacting with business team leaders and providing risk analysis balanced against business needs.
  • Strong legal and analytical skills with a creative mindset and a demonstrated ability to work on time-sensitive projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to successfully collaborate and partner with other in-house attorneys at Follett, engage in project-related matters from time to time and learn new areas to support the business, as needed.
  • Ability to gather facts from various sources and take initiative to get information that is not provided.
  • Subscribes to trusted advisor/strategic partner/collaborative operating model.
