ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER

1.0 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
1.1 The basic function of the Assistant Project Manager is to assist the Project Manager with administering, directing and coordinating the functions of the field supervisory personnel of the operations division.

2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
2.1 The Assistant Project Manager reports to and is directly accountable to the Project Manager.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Education
3.1.1 Required: Must have a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field. Or a Bachelors Degree in other field with 4 years of Project Engineer experience.
3.1.2 Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
3.2 Licensing / Registration / Certification
3.2.1 N/A
3.3 Experience
3.3.1 Required: 2 years as Project Engineer with construction management experience.
3.3.2 Preferred: 4 or more years of construction management experience.
3.4 Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
3.4.1 Position requires an understanding of industry practices and trends and their impact on the corporation. Individual must have interpersonal, communicative, and organizational skills.
3.5 Physical Requirements
3.5.1 The physical requirements may be stressful even though a majority of the time is sitting. Body movements of turning the head and torso, bending and flexing the arms, wrists and fingers are required. The senses required are being able to see and hear and having full power of speech.
3.6 Mental
3.6.1 Must be able to work under stressful deadline situation.
3.6.2 Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
3.6.3 Must be able to comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources. Computer skills are required.

4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS
4.1 Work will be in a climate-controlled office approximately half the time with the other half spent in the field. Workdays will typically be from 8 to 10 hours per day with some early morning or late evening meeting.

5.0 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS5.1 Help Project Manager hire, terminate, and/or change the duties of assigned personnel, following established company policies, procedures, and practices.
5.2 Assist with the development and implementation of normal operating procedures for overall project operations.
5.3 Approve material purchases and equipment rentals not covered in the estimate and not on hand or available.
5.4 Act as company representative in negotiations with the owners.
5.5 Approve the purchase of tools and supplies over $75.00 in value.
5.6 Approve all overtime hours above a 10% limit over budget to meet the needs of the project.
5.7 Approve all contract agreements and cost of all outside repairs of equipment assigned to the site(s).

6.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
6.1 The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Project Manager are to assist the Project Manager in the achievement and fulfillment of all his/her job duties.

7.0 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
7.1 Maintains good working relationship with supervised employees, making sure evaluations and raises are given within a timely manor.
7.2 Meets the profit and cost reduction objectives of the division.
7.3 Maintains a work force capable of meeting the short and long range objectives of the division.
7.4 Maintains and protects the company assets under his care.
7.5 Ensures that high quality standards are maintained and good business practices are followed for the maintenance and continued growth of the Operations division of Ajax Building Corporation.
