Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $23.23 to $25.62/hour.

Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $20.61 to $26.15/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: Valentine Reserve and SNARL

Working Days and Hours: Generally, M-F, 9-5. Includes night and weekend work.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Under supervision of the Operations Manager, employee maintains and repairs infrastructure, equipment, and grounds of the Valentine Reserve and Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Lab (SNARL). Employee also assists in logical support of projects, programs and visitors using the Reserves.

Required Qualifications:
High School

Experience maintaining facilities, vehicles, and landscaping

Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Basic mechanical aptitude.

Basic ability to perform unskilled building maintenance work.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree

Experience with remote field settings

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

30% Routine custodial work - Independently inspect facilities and perform routine custodial work in housing units, offices and the laboratory, including but not limited to mopping floors, cleaning appliances, washing windows and cleaning bathrooms.

25% Maintenance of facilities - Coordinate with Reserve Director and Operations manager to maintain and repair facilities including buildings, utilities, fences, bridges, and signs. May require working from plans or verbal instructions, making computations and estimating materials. Assist Director in responding to facility emergencies.

25% Grounds and Roads Maintenance - Maintain landscaping around buildings including weed removal and watering. Maintain irrigation system. Maintain trails, artificial stream channels and stream banks using chain saw, chipper, weed eaters, and manual tools. Cuts limbs, falls trees with chain saw. During winter months perform snow removal on roads and parking lots using heavy equipment and manual labor. Occasionally assist with burning slash piles. Operate wood splitter.

15% Maintenance of vehicles and equipment - Under direction of Operations Manager, assist with the regular maintenance schedule for vehicles and equipment. Keep records of maintenance. Coordinate major repairs with outside vendors as needed. Provide assistance to users when required. Test smoke detectors annually. Inspect fire extinguishers monthly and schedule annual service.

5% Administration - Occasionally substitute for the Reserve Director during absences which may include orientation of new users and security. Assist Director in responding to facility and/or equipment failures and other emergencies.
