Job Description

Job Summary

Visit residents and patients for initial food preferences.
Assist with communication between nutrition services and nursing.
Assist with monitoring meal service process.

Provides nutrition monitoring of patients under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Nutrition Screening with patients

  • Participation in the Nutrition care Process (NCP)

  • Following up on individual nutrition plan of care

  • Documenting food preferences and nutrition-related data

  • Reviewing patient menus for conformance to diet order

  • Providing individualized nutrition education

  • Reviewing individual's nutrient intake

Essential Functions

  • Identifies with and adheres to the code of ethics for the dietetics profession

  • Performs nutrition screening while adhering to the Standards of Practice (SOP) in Nutrition Care for DTRs

  • Uses medical records and interviews with patient/family to collect food and nutrition intake information (e.g., current and previous diets, nutrition support, meal and snack patterns, medical food/nutritional supplements, typical foods and beverages, cultural and religious preferences, and food allergies and intolerances), and reviews for factors that affect health conditions and nutritional risk

  • Obtains medical, anthropometric, biochemical, and medical test data and compares to standards provided by the RD

  • Implements the Nutrition Care Process to ensure individual health goals are established, monitored and achieved while adhering to the Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care for DTRs

  • Communicates results of nutrition screening, diet order, and data collection for nutrition assessment to RD and meal service-related data of immediate concern to diet office staff

  • Designs, selects and implements education strategies to meet the learning needs of the individual, group, community and population

  • Documents and maintains records according to the SOP for the DTR, legislation, regulations and organization policies. Maintains stock of infant formula and nutrition supplement samples, monitors expiration dates, and communicates with sales representatives to obtain stock

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Required Associate's Degree Associate or Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food service systems management, or related area, granted by an accredited college or university.

  • 1 year of relevant experience Experience as a DTR in an acute hospital or long-term car facility or as a diet clerk. Preferred

  • CRT-Nutrition & Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) - CDR Commission on Dietetic Registration Medical Nutrition Therapy 120 Days preferred
