Job Description:
Performs cardiac ultrasound tests in the echo lab with technical accuracy. These include, Transthoracic and Transesophageal echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms and Pediatric Transthoracic. Patient population served includes any patients from pediatric to geriatrics. Recognizes life-threatening signs and symptoms and arrhythmias, must maintain registry requirements (RDCS or CCI) as well as Basic Life Support/CPR certification. All newly hired employees must be registered as an adult cardiac sonographer by Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer through Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.
Performs all echocardiogram procedures
Complete understanding and documentation of TEE probe cleaning and leakage testing
Competent in starting IV's and basic understanding of basic IV maintenance
Maintain a professional environment through a clean and orderly department, adherence to dress code, and personal actions.
Recognizes life-threatening signs and symptoms and arrhythmias, and reports them to the attending nurse or physician or activates
Complete understanding and documentation using the facility EMR and associated software for echo and vascular reporting, image storage and image retrieval
Maintains Echo machines in the proper working order by routine cleaning of filters, keyboards and general cleaning. Adherence to manufacturing guidelines for equipment cleaning
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required
Must be candidate for registry as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. Registration may be through Cardiovascular Credentialing International as Registered Cardiac Sonographer or through The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
Any new hire will be registered in Adult Echocardiography.
Experience in all cardiology procedures preferred.
BCLS certification required within three months of hire
