Job Description

The Cochlear Implant Specialist-Senior Audiologist serves a diversified patient population with an emphasis on the adult population in the Department of Otolaryngology. The Sr. Audiologist provides cochlear implantation services, including hearing aid dispensing as it relates to cochlear implantation and audiological services. The Senior Audiologist works under the direct supervision of the Director of Audiology.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Cochlear implant services
  • Audiologic evaluations
  • Audiologic consultation and education
  • Mentor Audiologists in Cochlear implantation practice

Minimum Qualifications

  • California State Dispensing Audiologist License OR be eligible for licensure. Must obtain a Dispensing Audiologist license within 3 months of hire. Failure to obtain a Dispensing Audiologist license in that timeframe may result in termination
  • Demonstrated recent minimum of 5 years of cochlear implant experience within a Cochlear implant program providing candidacy evaluations, mapping, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with current hearing aids and assistive listening devices (including programmable/digital hearing aids and the software necessary to fit them)
  • Ability to assess aided hearing performance utilizing real ear measurements, electro-acoustic analysis, functional gain measurements, and the knowledge to interpret the results obtained from these measurements
  • Ability to make earmold impressions and the knowledge to choose appropriate earmold and custom shell designs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, and other healthcare providers
  • Organization skills necessary to maintain related to patient care accurate records
  • Must work with co-workers, patients, and physicians professionally
  • Must respect the privacy and confidentiality of others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current paneling by California Children's Services (CCS)
  • Continuing professional education to maintain a high level of expertise in the areas of Audiology and Hearing aid dispensing
  • Professional knowledge and clinical experience to evaluate hearing in a diverse patient population
  • Competency to interpret the results of Audiological evaluations and assess individual patient's needs for services including cochlear implants, appropriate amplification, and other listening devices
  • Professional knowledge and clinical experience to evaluate hearing in a diverse patient population
  • Ability to operate Audiologic equipment including but not limited to Channel Audiometers, Middle-ear Analyzers, Otoacoustic Emissions equipment, and Hearing aid analyzers
  • Professional knowledge and clinical experience in evaluating Cochlear implant candidacy, mapping, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge and skill necessary to perform in-office repairs and modifications for Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and earmolds
  • EPIC/EMR experience

The Department of Audiology is made up of a large team of Audiologists, health providers, and supporting staff who are dedicated to the care of our patients and the advancement of our practice. We work in close association with our Otolaryngology colleagues to provide the most compassionate and productive care possible.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work overtime and variable hours when necessary
  • Must be able to work in satellite clinics when necessary
  • Must be flexible to cover other areas of the clinic
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions
  • This position is expected to understand and comply with the UCDHS and Department Policy and Procedure manual
  • This position is currently not eligible for flex time hours

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks, and drug screen.
