Job Summary

Glendale Community College (GCC) is seeking a self-motivated, full-time Wellness and Fitness Technician Senior to provide oversight and training assistance to individuals using the GCC North Fitness Center and fitness equipment. This position will also assist with the daily operations of the GCC North Fitness Center, including, but not limited to, conducting orientations, preparing and retrieving reports, performing minor equipment maintenance, assisting with employee wellness programs and developing other programs, marketing and program promotion, and working with the other GCC Fitness Centers. This position may serve as a lead worker assigning and monitoring the work of others. This position must be able to work as a team player, collaborate with others, prioritize tasks, provide attention to detail, demonstrate a commitment to service excellence and student success, and provide high-quality fitness and wellness in a community college setting.

Essential Functions

40%: Monitors and oversees participants in the Fitness Center. Providing program assistance, conducting orientation sessions and oversight of equipment.

25%: Assigns and supervises work of others. Performs administrative duties related to the day-to-day operations of the GCC North Fitness Center, including onboarding, scheduling, and monitoring of fitness center front desk staff, student employees/interns, fitness center instructors and group fitness instructors. Assists with oversight of fitness programs, such as senior fitness and insurance-based programs and scheduling noncredit classes. Assist with preparation and retrieving information for reports and other programs.

20%: Community collaboration and membership building including fitness and wellness program promotion and participation in campus/community wellness events. Works in collaboration with marketing department and GCC Fitness Centers to develop and promote participation in fitness and wellness programming, such as social media, brochures, website, etc. Assists with planning, implementation, and evaluation of employee wellness programming/events; developing programming incentives. Will work collaboratively with various College and District departments/divisions to support campus-wide and/or district-wide initiatives.

10%: Evaluates equipment needs and makes recommendations for equipment acquisition and replacement. Receives and responds to equipment related issues, student issues and concerns.

5%: Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED supplemented by training and/or coursework in exercise physiology, physical fitness or related field and two years of experience performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications

A. Associate's degree in fitness related field, such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Wellness

B. Current national certification(s) from NSCA, ACE, ACSM and/or NASM

C. Current CPR certification

D. Two or more years of experience as a fitness professional with experience in exercise programming for general population, seniors, and/or other special populations

E. One or more years of experience using fitness tracking software, such as FitTrac

F. One or more years of experience assisting with group exercise classes

G. Experience working with employee wellness programming

Special Working Conditions
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require travel or work at the GCC Main campus
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #50 lbs
  • Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment.
