JOB SUMMARY

This is a temporary role to assist in providing staff support in an Inpatient and/or Outpatient environment. Inpatient: This role may provide basic care for patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse on our inpatient units and facilitate communication between the patient, their family, and the patient's care team via video conference applications or phone. Outpatient: This role may help answer phones, schedule appointments, and gather general information to register patients. May screen patients at Immediate Care sites and direct cars safely thru the Drive Thru testing sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

* Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the Hospital.

Inpatient Duties:

  • Responds to the immediate needs of the patient by answering patient call lights promptly and courteously.
  • As directed, by RN, makes hourly or more frequent rounds on patients for safety, comfort, and meeting patients' needs/requests
  • Positions, lifts, transfers, and ambulates patients as directed by the RN; use of Safe Patient Handling equipment
  • Assist with setting up meals for patients and ordering meals
  • Keeps patient rooms tidy, refreshes patient's linen as need, removes unnecessary equipment and linen
  • Assists patient with simple hygiene/comfort measures such as washing hands/face and oral care
  • As directed by the RN, transports patient to other departments or during discharge
  • When directed by the RN, remains with the patient continuously for patient safety.
  • Handles infectious waste and linen according to established hospital procedure
  • Adheres to proper infection control standards and hand washing techniques to avoid cross contamination
  • Cleans and disinfects unit specific equipment
  • Answers phones and/or cover/assist Unit Concierge as needed during the shift
  • Acts as a "Runner" to other departments, when needed to obtain necessary items for patient care

Outpatient Duties:

  • Receives and answers incoming calls related to general questions related to the Covid Hotline
  • Schedules testing appointments
  • Screens patients pulse Ox to determine urgency for ICCs
  • Gather patient information for registration of Drive Thru Testing sites to allow patients to return to their vehicles to wait
  • Directs traffic efficiently and safely through the drive thru
  • Screens patients making sure that they are at the right location and have been cleared to be tested
  • Gathers patient information from vehicles staged in the parking lot for the registrars to be able to complete their workflow

QUALIFICATION/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent work experience

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS

  • Direct contact or phone contact with patients and medical staff.

ENVIRONMENT.

  • Wear an N95 mask / PAPR and other PPE
  • Work may be outdoors subject to temperature fluctuations
  • Walking, bending, stooping, long periods of stationary standing, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Must be able to assist with occasional heavy lifting of 100+ pounds.
