Job Description
The Washington, DC, public policy office of Cox Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a Manager of Government Affairs to support the office's government affairs function. The primary purpose of the Federal Government Affairs Manager is to support the VP of Federal Government Affairs in advocating for Federal public policies beneficial to Cox Enterprises, Inc., and all Cox divisions before both the United States House of Representatives and the Senate. This includes helping to craft public policy positions, developing advocacy strategies to advance those positions, and executing those strategies before Congress. While expected to work on all issues, candidates should have a particular interest or expertise in telecommunications, automotive, or controlled environment agriculture policy. The Manager of Government Affairs will report to the VP of Government Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monitoring and analysis of legislation and legislative activities, which include agency and committee activities and publications.
  • Manages the company's Congressional database, ensuring accurate and timely data.
  • Provide basic research, draft talking points, and briefing materials for Congressional meetings.
  • Represent Cox before Congress and directly advocate with Members of Congress and staff in support of Company public policy positions. (The candidate must be willing to register under the Lobbying Disclosure Act.)
  • Collaborate in developing strategic Congressional advocacy plans for Cox business leaders by providing policy research and trend insight into impactful government activities.
  • Identify key legislative and regulatory issues impacting the organization and formulate effective advocacy plans.
  • Assist in drafting and compiling briefing material for executive visits.
  • Assist in coordinating activities for grassroots and executive engagement on public policy issues.
  • Work directly with member trade associations and coalitions to advocate and advance industry priorities before Congress.
  • Build and manage relationships with Members of Congress and staff, trade associations, consultants, and industry colleagues, advising on Cox's strategy and position on specific issues.
  • Assist in providing guidance and direction to support the operation of Cox's political action committee.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Congressional ethics and lobbying rules.
  • Support preparation of Lobbying Disclosure Act filings.


Professional Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years' experience, a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience, or 10 years' experience in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of public policy/advocacy experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Outgoing personality and willing to work with a team of government affairs professionals.


Preferred:

  • An advanced degree in law, political science, public administration, communications, or a related discipline is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a Congressional office is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of cable, automotive, or agriculture issues is highly desired.


USD 116,500.00 - 194,200.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $116,500.00 - $194,200.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
