Job Description

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) Business Analyst is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily and strategic operations of CRNA Clinical Staffing in collaboration with the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, Director of Manpower, Clinical Staffing Team, Chief Nurse Anesthetist and Administrative Manager. This position will report directly to the Administrative Manager of Clinical Scheduling and will collaborate with department leadership in the administrative management of department wide clinical operations as needed.


Specific duties & responsibilities:


Provides direct management and oversight of the CRNA daily schedule and scheduling system (Qgenda) for Johns Hopkins Hospital. Responsible for the nurse anesthetist scheduling functions according to the policies and procedures of the Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine and based on an understanding of the complex environment and the clinical staffing needs of the ORs. Will plan and ensure clinical coverage and recordkeeping for administrative and financial accounting.


  • Identifies areas of increased clinical need and works with the Chief Nurse Anesthetist to identify CRNAs to serve in these roles and collaborate with CRNA Lead in charge of orientation for onboarding schedule.
  • Daily management in of inquiries, schedule requests, approvals, via e-mail from 85 providers as the schedule is constantly fluid.
  • Daily management and updating of schedule to include call outs, add-ons, shift swaps, etc.
  • Serves as primary contact to work closely with Chief Nurse Anesthetist to implement best practices for clinical staffing optimization.
  • Participate in monthly Clinical Staffing meeting to include Vice Chair, Manpower Directors, Resident Director, CRNA Division Chief, and Division Chiefs.
  • Recommends and implements best practices to encourage optimal staffing which also positively impacts staffing budgets.
  • Partners with HR/Credentialing team and divisional contacts to add and remove providers from the scheduling system.
  • Meets with new hires to provide tutorial on Qgenda.
  • Assists the Administrative Manager with physician scheduling tasks as needed and serves as back-up.


Reconciles between timekeeping system (Kronos), scheduling system (Qgenda) and University E210 system, supplemental, agency and per diem shifts that require payment. Prepares invoice for payment for staff and per diem and reviews for accuracy agency invoices. Monitors the process of supplemental time submission, approval, and management for 85 CRNAs. Approves and monitors all sick, vacation, holiday, professional development, leave of absence, FMLA, etc. as requested by CRNAs. In conjunction with the Chief Nurse Anesthetist identifies any potential progressive disciplinary attendance issues as outlined under the JHU SOM clinical operations work rule.


Assists Administrative Manager with data collection to identify strategic and operational opportunities, monitor project outcomes, and closes projects with after-action reviews.


Partners with HR/Credentialing team and Chief Nurse Anesthetist to add and remove providers from the scheduling system, and orient new providers to the department and their scheduling responsibilities.







Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, systems operations, healthcare administration, or related field and two (2) years general business or related experience.
  • Knowledge of project management, strategic planning, and change management techniques and tools.
  • Must be able to manipulate Excel or similar spreadsheet software programs to analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Additional education may substitute for some experience, and additional experience may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Tableau (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop spreadsheets for data analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including faculty and staff.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person using spoken English.
  • Must be able to communicate via telephone and videoconferencing (such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams).
  • Must be able to carry out support of programs that require extensive work at a computer.

Role/Level/Range: ATP/04/PD
Starting Salary Range: $62,300 - $109,000 Annually ($65,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
