Position Summary

PCORI is seeking a Senior Graphics and Multimedia Designer with advanced-level skills and experience to join our dynamic integrated Communications team in Washington, DC. This individual will both collaboratively and solely be responsible for the design, creation, and production of a variety of visually compelling and effective internal and external graphic and multimedia deliverables. These will: resonate with key audience groups for the organization's email newsletters, training materials, promotions, internal/external meetings/events, website, and social media platform; aim to increase stakeholder engagement; and further PCORI's vision and mission.

From concept through execution, this candidate will improve our user experience by bringing PCORI's brand to life and keeping it consistent across all touchpoints. The ideal candidate is a creative professional with an intuitive design aesthetic and masterful design craftsmanship. They are comfortable working with teams within PCORI and all levels of reporting structure. They possess exceptional communications skills, intellectual curiosity, and innovative solutions. They understand the nuances of daily project management, are undaunted by changes in priority, and can swiftly pivot within multiple simultaneous projects. They will ensure the delivery of high-quality work that supports the strategic, creative, and editorial objectives of the Communications division and the broader communications goals of PCORI within tight deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities:

  • Create visually appealing and innovative designs for both print and digital platforms, including but not limited to social media, websites, email templates, video and promotional campaigns, to build brand awareness and engage with PCORI audiences.
  • Design and create various promotions/marketing materials, such as 1-pagers, posters, presentations and digital ads, that effectively communicate PCORI's messages to the intended audience. These materials must be visually appealing and aligned with the overall marketing campaign.
  • Translate complex ideas and messages into easily understandable visual formats. Simplify information into infographics, charts, and diagrams that make data and concepts more accessible to PCORI audiences.
  • Generate compelling design concepts that capture attention and resonate with PCORI's target audiences. Utilize industry best practices and current design trends and technologies to ensure the work remains fresh and relevant.
  • Manage PCORI's video library by posting and curating video content on PCORI's YouTube and Vimeo accounts as well as tracking analytics and reporting findings for produced multimedia content.
  • Record and edit video and sound projects, capture/import media, edit footage and sound files, create and insert static and motion graphics, title, chapter, add music/voice-over/sfx, manage media and archive projects.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand the overall visual needs, goals and target audiences of a campaign, event or project and create the appropriate print and digital designs. Develop strategic approaches, captured in design or project briefs based on this collaboration.
  • Deliver excellent design solutions by leveraging expertise in color, type, photography, animation and various digital, print and layout techniques
  • Ensure brand consistency and compliance across all platforms and materials.
  • Ensure printed or fabricated designs are prepared for execution and work closely with vendors to ensure the quality of the final products.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within communications and across PCORI.
  • Stay abreast of print and digital technology and media platforms and stay current on training for all technical aspects of the various software processes for graphics and multimedia production, including recommendations for new technologies.

Required Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of design and production best practices for print and digital.
  • Extensive experience designing, creating and graphically enhancing multimedia video, audio and graphic art in a highly visible working environment.
  • Advanced expertise in core Adobe Creative Cloud apps (Ai, Ps, Id, Ae, Pp), Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and collaborative tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Asana, etc.
  • Mastery of layout, typography, photography, videography, and color theory and how they function as a system to communicate clearly and define a brand.
  • Ability to take complex information and create concise and comprehensive designs.
  • Understanding of mobile-first design methodology for email marketing - responsive web design, content strategy, and information architecture.
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem solving and time-management skills.
  • Strategic thinker who focuses on goals and offers appropriate visual solutions.
  • Great team player with strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge and application of 508 compliance a plus.
  • Operate as a self-starter and manage projects from concept to completion.

Required Experience
  • 7+ years of experience as a senior graphic designer, multimedia designer, or similar role for an in-house creative department or design firm.
  • Four-year, BS degree in Design, Visual Arts, or relevant field.
  • Extensive experience working with videography, photography, animation, and interactive products.
  • Experience managing brands and supporting brand guidelines.
  • Experience designing health or healthcare-related content preferred.
