Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Postbac Research Assistant position. The Postbac Research Assistant is a full-time, one-year term position, $23.00/hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Research Assistant will work on the development and synthesis of new nanoparticle and organic molecule systems that can host photogenerated states that may be useful for quantum computation applications. The position is in the laboratory of Professor Jacob Olshansky in the Department of Chemistry. The Research Assistant will also support the management of laboratory instrumentation and supplies and training undergraduate students. The Research Assistant will take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Research
Carry out physical chemistry projects in the Olshansky Research Laboratory
Train undergraduate students in proper laboratory techniques
Train undergraduate students in data analysis
Analyze data
Maintain laboratory inventory and assist in ordering supplies
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry
Demonstrated interest in carrying out independent research
Excellent verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively, and the desire to train and support undergraduate students new to research
Commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive community
Experience and familiarity with nanoparticle synthesis
Experience and familiarity with electron paramagnetic resonance experiments
