Position Title:Advanced Practice Professional Development Specialist

Department:Advance Practice Providers

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the assessment, development, coordination, presentation, and evaluation of educational program needs across all disciplines of Advanced Practice within OU health.
  • Communicates effectively, both written and verbally, through all levels of OU Health to facilitate identification and resolution of issues as it relates to Professional Development Opportunities and/or Onboarding of new Advanced Practice staff.
  • Coordinates and facilitates APP orientation, competency certifications, and continuing education/professional development activities.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders, clinical and other experts, and colleagues throughout OUH to identify educational needs and practice gaps and design programs to address these needs.
  • Utilizes evidence-based knowledge and standards of practice to plan, design, implement and evaluate educational activities to address the identified needs and achieve specific outcomes.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Remains current on APP role trends and changes, nationally and regionally, that may impact organizational and healthcare delivery system.
  • Facilitates Practice Inquiry with regulatory agencies as appropriate.
  • Assists with maintaining accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Maintains Patient Care Practice: Effort to be determined.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing if APRN, MSN or Master's in Physician Assistant Services.

Experience

  • 3 or more years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in designated specialty preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:Must have prescriptive authority within 6 months of hire.

IF Advanced Practice Registered Nurse:

  • Active RN and APRN license in State of Oklahoma-AND-
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC and/or the AANP if required by direct patient care position requirements.
  • Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist - or-
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner - or -
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

IF Physician Assistant:

  • Active PA license in State of Oklahoma-AND-
  • Active Physician Assistant certification issued by the NCCPA.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Physician Assistants must obtain the required licensure from the State of Oklahoma within 30 days after the offer of employment.

All Advanced Practice RNs and Physician Assistant applicants must have:

  • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or uponhire-AND-
  • CPR certification and Advanced Life Support certifications if relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP). Obtain within 90 days of employment in this position. Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

  • Demonstrates ability to utilize a diverse range technology including simulation to achieve educational goals and outcomes.

  • Demonstrates insight into own strengths, limitations, and knowledge deficits.
  • Demonstrates initiative to meet identified learning needs using multiple resources.

  • Continuously seeks opportunities for clinical advancement and knowledge and skill attainment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Promotes mutual respect and trust working within a team model.

  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients in designated specialty, and a resource for others in areas employee is not licensed.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to practice area.
  • Demonstrates an advanced level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
